Fast & Furious 6When the sixth installment of the Fast & Furious franchise plays to its strengths (fast cars, good cinematography, beautiful women kicking butt, and some terrific action sequences) it works well. Sadly, we are also forced to sit through the franchise’s usual hamfisted attempts at dramatic tension and clichéd (not to mention extremely corny) dialogue which give us a mopey Vin Diesel for the first half-hour of the film and an inexplicable subplot involving Paul Walker in prison that doesn’t so much shit in the face of logic as refuse to exist the concept exists at all.

Director Justin Lin reassembles the team from the last film as Hobbs (Dwayane “It’s Okay To Call Me The Rock Again” Johnson) recruits Toretto (Diesel) and his drivers to take down a mercenary group of high-speed thieves attacking military targets. For Hobbs its about using the lesser of two evils to stop a greater one. For Toretto its about bringing a lost member of his family back home when Hobbs informs him that Letty (Michelle Rodriguez) is alive and working for the murderous leader (Luke Evans) of the group.

Fast Five

fast-five-posterThere’s insane and then there’s INSANE. Every time I thought the latest edition of The Fast and the Furious franchise had hit the limits of insanity they proved me wrong and found new ways to defy logic, common sense, and basic laws of nature. There’s a scene in last summer big-budget version of The A-Team where the team attempts to fly a tank that is falling through the air. The last twenty-minutes or so of Fast Five feel a lot like that.

With the exception of Michelle Rodriguez (whose character was killed off in the last installment), Fast Five brings together all the major characters of each of the films and picks up right where Fast & Furious left off with springing Turetto (Vin Diesel) from a prison bus.

Fast Five also gives us a new lawman. After the team is framed from the murder of two Federal Agents (because hunting them down for crimes they actually committed would be silly) the US Government sends the best to bring them in – Dwayne “Now that I’m back in the WWE you can call me The Rock again” Johnson.

Chuck Versus the Top Ten

The nerd who became a spy. I’m talking of Charles Irving Bartowski. Chuck is set to begin it’s fourth season next week (not bad for a show that’s faced possible, even probable, cancellation every year!). So today we take a look back at the ten best Chuck episodes (at least so far).

Cutting down the list to ten left of several key moments and characters off the list including love interests Kristen Kruek and Rachel Bilson, the first performance of Jeffster, John Laroquette as the perfrect spy, the tango, the not-so-perfect spy couple of Fred Willard and Swoozie Kurtz, Captain Awesome’s night as a spy, Chuck’s red test, Casey’s daughter, Ellie and Awesome’s wedding, the giant jug of cheese puffs, and Chuck and Sarah finally getting together in Paris.

Okay, that takes care of what didn’t make the list. Now let’s take a gander at what did…
