Today’s Throwback Tuesday post takes us back to 80s Saturday morning cartoons and the world of Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends. One of my favorite episodes of the series borrowed its set-up from an Agatha Christie novel as the Chameleon (Hans Conried) lures seven heroes to a castle on Wolf Island where the super-villain picks them off one by one. In Christie’s original tale part of the mystery centers around the guests starting to believe that one of them is actually the killer. Here writer Doug Booth makes terrific use of the Marvel Comics villain who who has the ability to disguise himself as any character (sowing dissension in the ranks). Along with the Chameleon’s deceptions, the island is also filled with traps, giant robots, and a force field to stop any of the heroes from leaving before our villain has had his fun.

Today’s Throwback Tuesday post takes us back to 80s Saturday morning cartoons and the world of Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends. The first episode of the series to air, “The Triumph of the Green Goblin” features longtime Spidey villain the Green Goblin (Dennis Marks) who reappears when Norman Osborne’s plane crashes causing his alter-ego to take hold once more. Despite disappearing for a rather long segment during which Spider-Man hunts down the Goblin and escapes the second of two death traps the villain leaves for him, Iceman (Frank Welker) and Firestar (Kathy Garver) show up at the end to freeze the local reservoir and remove the villain’s formula from mixing with the water and transforming others into goblin creatures like him.

The Origin of the Spider-Friends

Today’s Throwback Tuesday post takes us back to 80s Saturday morning cartoons and the world of Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends. Looking for a new animated series featuring their most popular character, and looking to tap into the same audience who enjoyed Super-Friends, Marvel decided on a team-up show featuring Spider-Man (Dan Gilvezan), one of the original X-Men, and a new character created for the show (who would become popular enough to eventually be added to the main Marvel Comics Universe). Appearing later in the show’s run, and narrated by none other than Stan Lee himself, “The Origin of the Spider-Friends” explains how Spidey first teamed-up with Iceman (Frank Welker) and Firestar (Kathy Garver) to save Tony Stark (William Marshall) and defeat the Beetle (Christopher Collins).

The Punisher – Roadhouse Blues

The Second Season of The Punisher starts with Frank Castle (Jon Bernthal) driving around middle American in the A-Team‘s van, not exactly looking for trouble but unable to avoid it when it finds him. As to how he is paying for the hotels, beers, gas, and other items… well, that’s just one of several questions the premiere doesn’t stop to answer. Two days in the same town is all it will take bring Frank’s more brutal nature to the surface when he attempts to help a scared young woman (Giorgia Whigham) from an insanely large number of well-trained attackers sent after a presumably unprotected target unable to fight back, leading to complications for Frank’s new friend with benefits (Alexa Davalos), the bartender of the bar where Frank leaves one hell of a bloody mess. He also “forgets” his wedding ring in one of those really convenient plot points to clue in the nameless host of bad guys as to the identity of their target’s new protector as soon as possible.

Wilson Fisk (Vincent D’Onofrio) has won. With the charges against him wiped away, anyone who could do damage to him has been killed or discredited. And with the FBI firmly under his thumb, the Kingpin prepares for his wedding. With Fisk’s victory all but complete, Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox) plans on attacking the Kingpin on his wedding day and putting down the villain for good. To do so means on relying on the help of Poindexter (Wilson Bethel) who Daredevil has just the right leverage to push over the edge and aim straight towards Fisk. Meanwhile, one last chance at taking Fisk down legally falls directly into the laps of Foggy (Elden Henson) and Karen (Deborah Ann Woll) with a dying confession by Ray Nadeem (Jay Ali) that can unravel the Kingpin’s entire operation.
