Jessica Jones - AKA 99 Friends

While using Hogarth (Carrie-Anne Moss) to find others who Kilgrave (David Tennant) has used in hopes of finding a lead to the villain’s location Jessica (Krysten Ritter) takes on a new client (Jessica Hecht) who has ulterior motives for hiring the super-powered detective. It becomes official when her client tries to lure Jessica into a trap to kill her (and the crazy woman isn’t even under Kilgrave’s influence), Jessica Jones has the worst luck with clients. The speech a wounded Ms. Jones gives to her would-be killers is where the episode gets it’s name, although it’s unclear whether the number she comes up with is real or an exaggeration meant to frighten her client into leaving town.

Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. - Maveth

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. ends the first-half of the show’s Third Season with the least shocking reveal ever, as expected Will (Dillon Casey) is the creature, and the death (sort of) of a major character. Lost halfway across the galaxy Ward‘s (Brett Dalton) team searches for Hydra’s mythical monster but only finds Will in the desolate landscape. Fitz (Iain De Caestecker) continues to search for ways to escape, something Will proves adept at, although discovering the truth about the stranded astronaut forces the scientist to make extremely hard choices.

Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. - Closure

Ward (Brett Dalton) killing Rosalind Price (Constance Zimmer) and Gideon Malick‘s (Powers Boothe) plans to re-open a portal shift the focus of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. back to Hydra as the show heads into next week’s fall finale. Angering Coulson (Clark Gregg) and tricking him into putting Fitz (Iain De Caestecker) and Simmons (Elizabeth Henstridge) into harms way allows the villain to capture his former teammates and force their cooperation in Malick’s plans. Although Simmons is under the impression Hydra wants to bring back the unseen force from the planet on which she was stranded, and knowing how the show’s writers think after two and a half seasons, I’m betting Will (Dillon Casey) turns out to actually be Hydra’s secret weapon just waiting to be transported home.

Jessica Jones - AKA It's Called Whiskey

As Jessica (Krysten Ritter) attempts to get the drugs she needs to stop Kilgrave (David Tennant) and orders Jeri Hogarth (Carrie-Anne Moss) to take defending Hope (Erin Moriarty) more seriously she reacts in horror to Hogarth and Trish‘s (Rachael Taylor) plan to get their client to go public on air with her story. As expected, Kilgrave responds, first over the air and then by sending a police officer to put a bullet in Trish’s brain. In an episode that showcases the villain’s actual and psychological power over his victims it also introduces some limitations to his powers. He’s unable to compel anyone to do his bidding over the airwaves and, as Jessica is able to take advantage of on two separate opportunities here, the literal interpretations of his commands can be used to break his temporary control of his victims.

Jessica Jones - AKA Crush Syndrome

Realizing that Kilgrave (David Tennant) is both alive and responsible for Hope (Erin Moriarty) murdering her loving parents, Jessica (Krysten Ritter) works to find the mind-controlling madman by going back to the events of the night she escaped from his control by following breadcrumbs on just how he was able to survive. There’s relatively little actual detective work over the course of the show’s First Season considering that our protagonist is a private investigator. “AKA Crush Syndrome” is probably the best example of Jessica using her skills as a detective in an attempt to uncover the truth. Although she doesn’t find the season’s villain, she does get discover how he was able to cannibalize a victim in order to stay alive, and a short discussion with the doctor involved in saving the villain’s life gives Jessica a weapon to use against Kilgrave when she finds him.
