The two-part season finale of Doctor Odyssey (which may turn out to be the series finale given the show has not yet been renewed) offers enough big event which we’ve seen sprinkled throughout the season. In the “Wave” an earthquake at the latest stop puts causes a tsunami which is bad timing for Max (Joshua Jackson) and a handful of guests, one with an injured knee, who can’t make it back to the ship and must see out higher ground and wait things out. Meanwhile, given the situation, the Odyssey (while taking on lots of locals in need of protection) is forced to return to deeper waters and ordered to leave the area (and their doctor behind).

While the show has been renewed for a Second Season, the two-part finale does wrap up several threads from the season and suggest at least one cast member won’t be back at the Holmes Clinic next year. Things start off with Adams (Peter Mark Kendall) being poisoned by Moriarty (Randall Park) using a customized virus which also eventually infects his twin brother Stephens as well. Not realizing how it ties into his plans, Ingrid (Eve Harlow) destroys some genetic samples which could have been used to save the twins, although the good doctor scrapes enough together to save one of them.

Watson – The Dark Day Deduction

“The Dark Day Deduction” introduces a classic piece of the Watson (Morris Chestnut) character by confirming his military service with the arrival of a new patient (Robert Bailey Jr.) who served with the doctor overseas and whose worsening delusional condition both blame Watson for (although the patient has also been carrying his own guilt around for more than a decade). Complications in the case involve a patient who doesn’t want Watson to treat him and the patient disappearing from his hospital room during one of his hallucinations believing he is still in Afghanistan. The thread also ties into the relationship between Watson and Mary (Rochelle Aytes) revealing that the start of the marital troubles came from Watson’s return after the traumatic events which he could never forgive himself for.

Watson – The Man with the Alien Hand

  • Title: Watson – The Man with the Alien Hand
  • IMDb: link

For a show still trying to figure out what exactly it is, “The Man with the Alien Hand” is an interesting episode that opens the door, should the writers choose, to offer episodes more about mystery and detection outside of medical diagnoses. The episode starts much like any other with a patient with an unusual condition involving not having control of one of his hands. While helping him, Watson (Morris Chestnut) and the team also give their patient some credibility when he uses his condition to murder his brother and claim a higher percentage of his inheritance. While there still are medical aspects to the case, “The Man with the Alien Hand” becomes more about proving a criminal’s guilt than solving the patient’s condition.

Watson – Take a Family History

  • Title: Watson – Take a Family History

The past and present lies of Ingrid (Eve Harlow), including an incredibly coincidental connection to Mary (Rochelle Aytes), are brought out in the open when she’s forced to come clean after the sister (Kiera Allen) she snuck into the medical study starts to have complications. Even after bringing the case to Watson (Morris Chestnut) and the group, Ingrid attempts to initially hide what she’s done although eventually she’ll need to lay all her cards bare. We’re given extended flashbacks with younger actresses playing Ingrid and her sister (Amanda Arcuri and Beatrice Schneider) showcasing dark moments of the young woman’s past that put her onto her current path. Consequences of her current actions may make Moriarty’s (Randall Park) offer all the more appealing (which is really the point of the episode).
