Lucifer - The Complete First SeasonWhat would happen if the Devil went on vacation? And while on vacation decided to become a club owner who, in his spare time, solved crimes? That’s the basic premise of Lucifer. Based on the Vertigo Comics character created by Neil Gaiman, Tom Ellis stars as Lucifer Morningstar. Hardly hiding, while helping Detective Chloe Decker (Lauren German), the only woman not susceptible to the Devil’s charms, solve crimes, Lucifer lets everyone from Chloe to his psychologist (Rachel Harris) know that he believes himself to be the Devil. Despite witnessing the inexplicable, however, no one takes his admission seriously.

Highlights of the highly-enjoyable First Season include a very important missing cargo container, Lucifer searching for his stolen wings, the Devil attempting to do good (for all the wrong reasons), a priest being the prime suspect in a murder, Lucifer meeting Chloe’s showbiz mom, Lucifer searching for an impostor, and the final two episodes of the season where Lucifer is framed for murder.

Scooby-Doo! Team-Up #16When Captain Marvel, Mary Marvel, and Captain Marvel, Jr. go missing while investigating the latest plans of the Monster Society of Evil, Uncle Dudley and Tawnky Tawny call in Mystery, Inc. to help find the missing members of the Marvel Family.

With it’s add assortment of villains and heroes, Fawcett City proves to be a perfect destination for Scooby-Doo and friends. My only real complaint here (other than not loving the look of Tawny who I want to look a little more cuddly) is that we only get one issue here when there’s such fertile ground to cover (including teasing the one member of the Marvel Family which Scooby doesn’t meet). I’m hoping the team can find an excuse to come back to Fawecett in the near future.

Sherlock - The Abominable BrideTaking place almost entirely in 1895, the natural habitat for Sherlock Holmes (Benedict Cumberbatch) and Doctor Watson (Martin Freeman), “The Abominable Bride” is an unusual episode that allows the modern retelling of the detective’s adventures to journey back to his original hunting grounds. After a brief reintroduction the characters, things start in earnest when Lestrade (Rupert Graves) brings the pair an unusual case of a suicidal bride whose ghost has appeared multiple times to wreak havoc.

The holiday special works fairly well until its final act where it stalls trying to incorporate the show’s current storyline with the unsolved mystery (rather than just allowing the tale to exist on its own).

Available on both Blu-ray and DVD, extras include an extended featurette on the episode and the series, a Q&A about the series, a production diary, and shorter featurettes on the show’s writing and various aspects of recreating the look of 19th Century London for the episode.

Scooby-Doo! Team-Up #15Scooby-Doo! Team-Up #15 takes Mystery, Inc. from Central City to the darkest jungles of Africa for a team-up with the Flash. After helping the Scarlet Speedster take down the Mirror Master, Scooby and the gang hitch a ride to Gorilla City where everyone, even Grodd, needs their help in dealing with a Gorilla Ghost haunting the city of telepathic apes.

Sholly Fisch and artist Dario Brizuela certainly have fun playing with the Flash’s super-speed (while making note of how everyone involved really should have their own television show). Choosing to make Grodd a victim rather than the gorilla behind the haunting of Gorilla City proves to be a nice twist.
