Film Masters’ Restored Archive Collection collects the final two Sherlock Holmes movies starring Arthur Wontner in this double-feature single-disc Blu-ray. Based on The Valley of Fear, The Triumph of Sherlock Holmes gives us Wontner as a retiring Holmes who, with Dr. Watson (Ian Fleming), investigates the apparent murder of Mr. John Douglas (Leslie Perrins) of Birlestone Manor who turns out to be quite alive despite the machinations of a secret society and Professor Moriarty (Lyn Harding). The film incorporates an extended flashback to events in America (explaining the motives for wanting Douglas dead) as well as aspects of “The Final Problem” involving Moriarty’s visit to Holmes at 221B Baker Street and an apparent fall to death which ends the film.

NCIS: Origins – Blue Bayou

More than the cold shoulder that Gibbs (Austin Stowell) from Dominguez (Mariel Molino) after returning from Mexico over events which aren’t discussed, “Blue Bayou” stands out for filling in more of Gibbs’ backstory following his murder of Pedro Hernandez and what exactly the former Marine was doing with himself before Franks (Kyle Schmid) hired him. In what’s been a theme of the show introducing characters who helped save his life after the death of his family, we see the unlikely friendship that not only helps Gibbs get through the months following his Mexican mission of revenge but ultimately puts him on a path to NIS forever changing the course of his life.

Conclave

Far less silly than Angels & Demons (at least until its final ten minutes), and with less conspiracy and murder, Conclave tackles the election of a new pope by the sequestered College of Cardinals. Our main protagonist throughout events is Cardinal-Dean Thomas Lawrence (Ralph Fiennes) who despite his recent religious struggles finds himself in charge of the proceedings where he sides with the more modern liberal candidates (Stanley Tucci and Lucian Msamati) for the open position over other candidates (John Lithgow and Sergio Castellitto).

Black Doves – The Coming Night

There’s quite a bit of ground covered in “The Coming Night” which fills in past events concerning Sam’s (Ben Whishaw) relationship with Michael (Omari Douglas) are explored. We also get the events concerning the notable murder he did for Lenny (Kathryn Hunter), which proved his loyalty and ability beyond question, and the one he missed which also ties into him fleeing and the favor he owes Helen (Keira Knightley). The flashbacks build up the friendship between the pair including the time where she had one foot out of the door before being pulled back in keep her friend safe. And in the present, everything comes full circle with the Hector (Luther Ford) leading up to suicide run number 2 for Sam.

NCIS: Origins – Vivo o Muerto

The case of a Navy seaman abducted by a human trafficking ring leads Gibbs (Austin Stowell) and Dominguez (Mariel Molino). However, things get more interesting when cartel responsible is revealed to be the same cartel that killed Gibbs’ family. “Vivo o Muerto” plays the “everyone on deck” trope with lots of work in the office while Gibbs and Dominguez, and eventually Franks (Kyle Schmid), work to track down not only the seaman but several other women all held by the cartel whose members include the man Gibbs has been hunting since his return from overseas.
