NCIS: Hawai'i - Into Thin Air

In a storyline that pretty heavily suggest there will be a major twist, a Marine’s wife (Nikiva Dionne) is kidnapped and held for a ransom that can’t possibly be paid (except for that $3 million in illegal money he and his best friend helped smuggle from Iraq). The plot attempts to first point to the husband (Brandon Fobbs) as the perpetrator, but there’s really nothing to back that up given his genuine concern for his missing wife. The death of his compatriot and the missing money only makes things more murky for the investigation until Carla (Seana Kofoed) finds some sloppy evidence that points to an obvious suspect no one has been looking at.

NCIS: Hawai'i - The Next Thousand

The murder of a Marine in the jungle during survival training sends Kai (Alex Tarrant), Jesse (Noah Mills), and Tennant (Vanessa Lachey) looking for the other members of the group while Whistler (Tori Anderson) teams up with Hanna (LL Cool J) to investigate the group’s recent actions and their culpability in the disappearance of a local bartender. All evidence points to one member of the squad being responsible both for the jungle murder and the missing bartender, which seems even more likely when more of squad turn up dead, although Whistler believes there is a larger story that the Marines are attempting to hide.

NCIS: Hawai'i - Operation Red Rabbit

Our case of the week involves a con artist (Noah Bean) pretending to be a Naval Intelligence officer while conning a slew of female entrepreneurs. After abandoning his latest mark (Brianna Brown), making her believe he is in danger allowing him to move on to another scam, his most gullible victim yet shows up in NCIS and it doesn’t take much time to realize nothing about his story is true. While it never really sells the idea that our con man could actually be a spy, “Operation Red Rabbit” is nevertheless a fun episode with an equally goofy B-story involving the growing bromance between Kai (Alex Tarrant) and Hanna (LL Cool J).

NCIS: Hawai'i - Serve and Protect

While Lucy (Yasmine Al-Bustami) is assigned to protect one of the daughter (Masha Mashkova) of a Russian oligarch, and one of the visitors for a peace summit, Hanna (LL Cool J) reads Tennant (Vanessa Lachey) in to one of of his super-secret squad’s assignments, this one involving Alexi Volkoff (David Meunier). Tennant quickly  finds the right lever to get Hanna the information his team needs leaving the majority of the episode to focus on the Lucy storyline. We also get Kai (Alex Tarrant) running into an old friend in a Canadian reporter (Peyton List) he was involved with during his time in Afghanistan who in turns out might be able to help NCIS learn Tatyana’s true purpose on the island.

NCIS: Hawai'i - Dead on Arrival

The death of a Navy pilot in a swanky resort leads to the uncovering of a cocaine smuggling ring on the island. “Dead on Arrival” is most notable for Lucy (Yasmine Al-Bustami)  and Whistler (Tori Anderson) going in undercover at the resort as a newly married couple, running into a bit of danger, and eventually identifying the brains behind the operation (John Marshall Jones) and the rest of the team raiding the compound at the end of the episode. The episode also plays on Jesse‘s (Noah Mills) concerns about Sam Hanna (LL Cool J) and what he’s really up to, and also Ernie (Jason Antoon) uncovering that whatever the agent from Los Angeles is doing on the island it’s far more hush-hush than simply a teaching assignment.
