Continuing the focus on Gray‘s past, Nights #14 offers us a flashback to Gray meeting the lizard-swaying magic user Erik and the fallout of the pair stealing the Magic 8-Ball which leads Chimera to their door. Gray puts up a fight, but eventually surrenders to save Erik (leading to them being caged and targeted for death by Chimera). The classic toy, however, may have other ideas.

Nights #12

Nearly four months after the release of Nights #11, the end of the opening arc finally hits stores with an extra-sized issue with big revelations and changes for multiple characters. The first-half of the issue focuses primarily on how well everything is finally going for our main characters as each has managed to grab and hold onto a little happiness as life begins to move on, happily for once. However, life is about to get a lot more serious with a trip to the local generic, if recognizable, theme park.

A change of pace, Nights #11 offers a series of short vignettes from different authors and writers all on the world of Nights, some of which are more clear than others. “Night Flight,” the most straightforward of the stories, offers a silent tale of Gray around town taking pictures of everything from a wedding to being attacked by a monster.

After dealing with the drama and searching for meaning and truth in the lives of the other characters, Gray and Vince are happy together and Ivory has started something good with Molly. That leaves things open for the odd man, er Ghost, out. On his birthday, Ivory takes his friend camping to search for the beast who killed him. The set up allows the comic to explore both the idea of ghosts and Matt himself (allowing us to see him before his death).
