Nightwing #117 ends Dick Grayson‘s sabbatical in Nanda Parbat training with Deadman. Sadly, in what feels like a missed opportunity, we only get a handful of panels of Batman standing in for Nightwing (along with a joke about how he “quipped twice” to keep the cover). In the mountains, Dick uncovers a truth that the recent tragedy brought to the surface (along with being poisoned and the stress of being framed for murder) allowing him to take the leap (literally) and the journey back to Bludhaven.

Nightwing #116 quickly skips over the part of this story was most concerned with. We get Dick Grayson’s recovery and the equivalent of a montage to get him out of the country and on his quest to the Himalayas. While his friends are ready to stick up for him an even allow their secret identities to be exposed to save his own, Dick is more concerned with recovering what he’s lost as Nightwing than clearing his name (at least for now) which plays out similarly to the  Bruce’s focus in Batman: Bruce Wayne – Murderer?

Kicking off a new five-issue arc, Nightwing #114 catches up with our titular character in the mountains looking to recover something he’s lost. Intercut with these sequences are flashbacks to recent events which begin to slowly tease what eventually led Dick Grayson into the wild. The issue does what it sets out to do, both in starting the slow burn of events back home and giving us a current Dick Grayson looking to find himself once more.
