“For me, Jack Carter was London.”

Throwback Tuesday takes us back to another adventure of the Archaeologists of the Impossible. After hearing news of Jack Carter‘s death (Planetary‘s stand-in for John Constantine), Elijah Snow and the Drummer accompany Jakita Wagner to the dickish rogue’s funeral. Despite the man’s many faults, Jakita still looks back on him fondly (although the pedestal she places him on will be shaken before the end of the comic).

Fantastic Four Week is the perfect time to return to adventure of the Archaeologists of the Impossible as Planetary #6 is notable for introducing the WildStorm Universe’s version of the Fantastic Four as the greatest villains of the world. Giving a chance for Elijah Snow to put his money where his mouth is and do some real good with Planetary, Jakita Wagner introduces the grumpy codger to the story of “The Four,” a group sent to the moon as part of the super-secret Artemis project while Apollo grabbed the headlines. Returning to Earth changed, the four (already morally-questionable individuals) used their gifts to grow their power on Earth soon running Artemis and later getting their tendrils into every crevice of the world.

Planetary #4

Throwback Thursday takes us back to another adventure of the Archaeologists of the Impossible. Because it pushes our characters a bit to the side, Planetary #4 isn’t one of my favorite issues of the series but it is certainly notable in how it is used to flesh out and explore the universe where Planetary works. Flashback Friday takes us back to another adventure of the Archaeologists of the Impossible. There are better issues of Planetary but I don’t know if there’s a cooler issue than Planetary #3 which sends Elijah Snow, Jakita Wagner, and the Drummer to Hong Kong to investigate the ghost of a murdered cop seeking vengeance killing criminals with brutal efficiency. The issue continues to showcase how any kind of story can be a Planetary story and works in a panel to remind us how freakin’ cool Jakita Wagner is.

Planetary #2

Throwback Tuesday takes us back to another adventure of the Archaeologists of the Impossible. In Planetary #2, Elijah Snow,  Jakita Wagner, and the Drummer head to the far northwestern tip of the Japanese archipelago ruled off limit to all (under the guise of a territorial dispute between Russia and Japan). An unhinged militant radical novelist and his acolytes have set foot on what is known as Island Zero and Planetary is sent to clean up the mess as, you see, Island Zero is home to the remains of kaiju – a fact which has been kept from the rest of the world for decades.
