The Punisher - Roadhouse Blues television review

The Second Season of The Punisher starts with Frank Castle (Jon Bernthal) driving around middle American in the A-Team‘s van, not exactly looking for trouble but unable to avoid it when it finds him. As to how he is paying for the hotels, beers, gas, and other items… well, that’s just one of several questions the premiere doesn’t stop to answer. Two days in the same town is all it will take bring Frank’s more brutal nature to the surface when he attempts to help a scared young woman (Giorgia Whigham) from an insanely large number of well-trained attackers sent after a presumably unprotected target unable to fight back, leading to complications for Frank’s new friend with benefits (Alexa Davalos), the bartender of the bar where Frank leaves one hell of a bloody mess. He also “forgets” his wedding ring in one of those really convenient plot points to clue in the nameless host of bad guys as to the identity of their target’s new protector as soon as possible.

The Punisher - 3AM television series

Aside from the opening and closing scenes, there’s little punishment dealt out in the first episode of Netflix’s The Punisher. Previously introducing in the Second Season of Daredevil, Frank Castle (Jon Bernthal) kills off the last couple members of the criminal organization tied to the murder of his wife and children. Months later, still haunted by his missing family (which he deals with by smashing walls into rubble) and hiding under an assumed identity as a construction worker, Frank is forced into action to help a co-worker (Lucca De Oliveira) who gets in over-his-head. Once he gets out, they pull him back in.

Wow, and I thought my interest in this project was low before watching the trailer. Did we really need a detailed origin story for Frank Castle (Jon Bernthal)? Wasn’t that ground already covered in Daredevil (not to mention several crappy movies)? Anywho, here’s the trailer for Netflix’s next offering in their Marvel line-up. Ebon Moss-Bachrach, Jaime Ray Newman, and Amber Rose Revah will also star, and Deborah Ann Woll will reprise her role as Karen Page. The Punisher premieres on Netflix on November 17th.

Daredevil - Regrets Only

After helping Karen (Deborah Ann Woll) bully Foggy (Elden Henson) into a war with the District Attorney by representing the Punisher (Jon Bernthal), Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox) abandons his team to spend the evening with Elektra (Elodie Yung) and help her steal an important ledger from the Roxxon corporation during a party. Can you say spy sequence? By the end of the episode we don’t trust Elektra any more than Matt does, but we also have to admit that the two work well together (both in and out of costume).

“Sweetheart, you don’t break into my place and talk to me about trust.”

Daredevil - Kinbaku

“Kinbaku” kicks off the second arc of Daredevil‘s Second Season with the introduction of Matt Murdock‘s (Charlie Cox) college girlfriend Elektra Natchios (Elodie Yung) who is in need of a lawyer (or so she claims). From their reunion in Matt’s apartment it’s obvious the pair didn’t part on the best of terms (as the flashbacks will prove). For what Elektra is really after, however, we’ll have to wait a little further into the season because Elektra hasn’t come looking for Matt Murdock, exactly, but for Daredevil.
