I’m still waiting for a Du Jour spinoff. Even 20 years after its release, 2001’s adaptation of the Archie Comics series and the Hanna-Barbera cartoon is simply a delight. A satirical take on pop culture and consumerism underneath a tale of a band’s meteoric rise to the top of the pop charts, Josie and the Pussycats was well before its time carving out a cult status in the years since its lukewarm reception in theaters.
Following the plane crash of the delightful boy band Du Jour (Donald Faison, Seth Green, Breckin Meyer, and Alexander Martin), who discover something unexpected when listening to their latest mix tracks, their manipulative promoter (Alan Cumming) seeks another band to hide subliminal messages within their music and so we meet the Pussycats: Josie (Rachael Leigh Cook), Melody (Tara Reid), and Val (Rosario Dawson).

Premiering in the summer of 2012 TNT’s Perception was an intriguing premise of casting Eric McCormack as a schizophrenic consultant for the FBI who would work through a case by discussing it with hallucinatory figments of his imagination. McCormack and Rachael Leigh Cook, as the professor’s former student turned FBI agent, helped sell the murder-of-the-week which often involved Dr. Daniel Pierce (McCormack) diagnosising an unusual mental condition that would often exonerate one suspect and eventually help lead the FBI to the true culprit of the crime.

While laying the groundwork for next week’s series finale (TNT decided not to renew the show for a Fourth Season), “Romeo” features Daniel Pierce (Eric McCormack) attempting to come to terms with his feelings about Kate‘s (Rachael Leigh Cook) impending marriage to Donnie (Scott Wolf) while investigating a murder on campus most believe was committed by a mentally-confused student (Deniz Akdeniz) whose previous rash behavior wasn’t punished more harshly by Haley (LeVar Burton) because of the Dean’s friendship with Daniel.

While struggling to write her vows for her upcoming second marriage to Donnie (Scott Wolf), Kate (Rachael Leigh Cook) brings Daniel Pierce (Eric McCormack) onto a case involving the murders of the Bangladeshi Consul General (Ajay Mehta) and a Chicago reporter (Alex Weed) which uncovers a conspiracy that left thousands dead of cholera due to inadequate vaccine. Pierce immediately dismisses the leading suspect (Agam Darshi) in the crime, an assistant to the consul who suffers from Mirror-touch synesthesia forcing her to feel the emotions and pain of those around her making it impossible for the woman to be responsible for her boss’ death.
