Batman: The Adventures Continue #9

Batman: The Adventures Continue #9 comic reviewThe tale of Jason Todd begins here. Batman‘s second partner was skipped over in the Batman: The Animated Series run which featured Dick Grayson in the role at the series outset and Tim Drake in the relaunch of the show. Todd was a controversial character in comics, likely why the series chose to ignore him, but after teasing us with the character lurking in the shadows for several issues Batman: The Adventures Continue #9 finally gets things started when Todd’s stakeout of the Joker ends poorly leaving evidence for Batman to discover that his fallen protege has returned (although no word yet on how the comic will explain those events).

LEGO DC: Batman – Family Matters

  • Title: LEGO DC: Batman – Family Matters
  • IMDb: link

LEGO DC: Batman - Family Matters DVD reviewThe latest LEGO DC straight-to-video offers two storylines intertwined by the common theme of family. The more interesting of the two centers around the sudden appearance of the Red Hood (Jason Spisak) who picks off the Bat-Family one-by-one while enlisting the help of several other Bat-Villains including the Penguin (Tom Kenny), Riddler (André Sogliuzzo), Killer Croc (Nolan North), and Scarecrow (Steve Blum). Less deadly in LEGO form, the Red Hood still works fairly well as DC LEGO takes more family-friendly approach to the former Robin becoming a super-villain.

The other storyline involves Batman (Troy Baker) growing weary of being Bruce Wayne and deciding to sell off the company whose new invention Brother Eye falls into the hands of Two-Face (Christian Lanz) and becomes a problem the Bat-Family, with the Red Hood’s help, will need to solve. Just as Jason Todd will reconsider his revenge and reclaim a role within the Bat-Family, Batman will reconsider the importance of his alter-ego to Gotham City.

Event Leviathan #3

Event Leviathan #3 comic reviewEvent Leviathan #3 picks up from Batman and the heroes he’s gathered wrongly accusing the Red Hood for being the mastermind behind Leviathan. As expected, Jason Todd isn’t the one responsible for the attacks on various spy organizations across the DCU, although writer Brian Michael Bendis does up the character’s game in making him a legitimate threat to the heroes if he chooses to be in the future.

And, as Todd points out, he does make the perfect patsy for the entire enterprise, further suggesting the involvement of someone behind Leviathan who knows the deepest secrets of Batman and the Justice League.

Event Leviathan #2

Event Leviathan #2 comic reviewDC’s summer event has been all about chaos and misdirection, which makes it hard to buy into the theory postulated here about who is behind the attacks across the DCU on various spy organizations such as A.R.G.U.S., Spyral, the DEO, and others.

Taking place mostly in a single conversation between Batman and the Red Hood, Batman gets his former protege up to speed on events while stalling for a more pressing purpose. During the conversation we’re also given a sequence featuring the mysterious leader of Leviathan who seems to know the Justice League intimately.
