A Discovery of Witches - Episode 4 & 5

While others conspire to keep them apart, the fourth and fifth episodes of the series are about cementing the unlikely romantic partnership between Diana Bishop (Teresa Palmer) and Matthew Clairmont (Matthew Goode). Unable to frighten Diana away, Ysabeau (Lindsay Duncan) must eventually cave and accept his son’s love for the witch. It seems Diana may have friends after all. However, the infighting at the conclave will lead to Dian being whisked away from the safety of Sept-Tours ending on a cliffhanger.

Murder in a Small Town - Fall from Grace

“Fall from Grace” continues to progress the relationship of Chief of Police Karl Alberg (Rossif Sutherland) and librarian Cassandra Lee (Kristin Kreuk) as the high school reunion brings an opportunity for the pair to take their first public outing as a couple and also leads to another murder. In the episode we see the highs and lows for Cassandra, quickly following for Karl, only to see his job interfere again at an inopportune time abandoning her at the dance. I would be surprised if this give-and-take doesn’t continually appear over the series for as long as the two are romantically linked.

My Old Ass

If given the opportunity to talk to your younger self, what advice would you give? I wasn’t expecting much from this comedy about a teenager meeting her future self while high on mushrooms. Variations of this premise have been done before, but rarely, if ever, as well. Under the fantastical premise, there’s something quite real about growing up and making realizations about yourself, your life, and understanding what you are leaving behind.

Lois & Clark - Witness

Superman Saturday takes us back 90s Metropolis when ABC made you believe big city reporters could break any story, and, when necessary, that one of them could fly. Looking to expose the evil machinations of Barbara Trevino (Claudette Nevins) concerning illegal mining in the Amazon Rainforest, reclusive scientist Dr. Vincent Winninger (Elliott Gould) offers Lois (Teri Hatcher) a once-in-a-lifetime interview only to for her to witness his murder. She identifies the killer, or at least thinks she has, when in fact the real killer is makeup artist Sebastian Finn (played by several actors but credited to William Mesnik) who has a talent for disguising himself as virtually anyone.

Side Out

For Throwback Thursday we turn our attention to some Beach Volleyball. While not Olympic quality, Side Out manages to highlight the sport in its own way. Working his way to law school, and staying with his uncle (Terry Kiser) for the summer, Monroe Clark (C. Thomas Howell) is ill-prepared for the world he’s walking into. While attempting to evict people from their homes, Monroe runs across degenerate gambler and beach bum Zack Barnes (Peter Horton). Despite his uncle needing Barnes evicted for a lucrative land deal, Monroe strikes up a friendship with the former beach volleyball player and a pair of other locals (Courtney Thorne-Smith and Christopher Rydell) leading him to reassess what he wants out of his life.
