Rick and Morty - The Complete Third SeasonThe Third Season of Rick and Morty picks up with Rick‘s (Justin Roiland) war against the Galactic Government in an episode that features body switching, Rick’s loss of the ability to improv, and lots of dead government officials. Rick’s victory and return to Earth sets things back to normal (or as normal as things get for a show where one character turns himself into a pickle to get out of family therapy).

Highlights from the season include Rick and Morty‘s humorous take on a clip show, the return of the Vindicators, the Mad Max episode complete with Morty’s (Roiland) murderous arm, Rick’s adventure with a depressed Jerry (Chris Parnell), Rick and Morty getting into a growing confrontation with the President of the United States (Keith David), and Beth (Sarah Chalke) discovering a troubling truth about her childhood.

Darth Vader #16

Darth Vader #16 comic reviewThe battle for Mon Cala continues in Darth Vader #16 as the Dark Lord of the Sith and his inquisitors search for the Jedi Barr and his followers. Meanwhile, despite grinding out victories over the locals, Tarkin grows weary at the cost the Mon Cala resistance is having on the Empire and enlists Vader to help which will leave the troopers and Inquisitors at the mercy of Barr who still has a trick or two up his sleeve.

The issue features a few flashbacks to Barr enlisting followers to his side from those personally hurt by the Empire. While none of these are that detailed we do see a certain cold (almost Sith-like) logic to bending followers and their angry and hurt to his will.

Darth Vader #14

Darth Vader #14 comic reviewFollowing the death of an Imperial Envoy on Mon Cala, Governor Tarkin‘s forces under the command of Darth Vader have invaded the planet and laid siege to above-ground cities. When diplomacy fails to halt the invading Imperial forces, the king decides to go to extreme measures and destroy every single surface city on the planet rather than allow them to be taken by the Empire and used as staging areas against the rest of the planet deep below the ocean’s surface.

With the storyline taking place on Mon Cala, we’re given a look at a younger Admiral Ackbar as part of the group responsible for the protection of the planet which should please fans of the character.

Lost in Space - Impact television review

The cheesy 60s sci-fi drama gets a gritty reboot on Netflix beginning with “Impact” which introduces us to the new version of the Robinson clan who crash land on an un-mapped planet in the show’s opening episode. Using flashbacks (which, even only one episode in, I’m tempted already to start fast-forwarding through), the episode fills in a bit about the Robinsons and the cataclysmic event on Earth that sent families like them to the stars in hopes of finding a new home. We discover that Maureen (Molly Parker) and John (Toby Stephens) are far from the happiest of couples and their children are clever beyond their years but also have a habit for getting themselves in trouble.
