Rick and Morty - Rise of the Numbericons: The Movie

Well, that was certainly… a half-hour of television. In a move that can only be compared to South Park’s “Terrance and Phillip in Not Without My Anus” episode, Rick and Morty offer a full episode without Rick Sanchez instead focusing on war between Ice-T, now Water-T, and his Alphabetrians verus the Numbericons. To put it kindly, let’s just say “Rise of the Numbericons: The Movie” has all the tell-tale signs of something that looks like it was much more fun to make than to watch.

Dream Scenario

Writer/director Kristoffer Borgli dives into the ups and downs of fame with the unusual prospect of an unremarkable college professor who begins showing up other people’s dreams. Mostly nothing more than an unassuming witness to the dream which otherwise has nothing to do with him, Paul (Nicolas Cage) becomes an immediate celebrity simply for the phenomena he has no control over. However, when his actions in the dreams of others become more explicit and violent the backlash becomes quite real leading to trouble at home, at work, and even attacks made against him.

Doctor Who - The Star Beast

The first of three holiday specials designed to wash the unpleasant taste of recent Who history out of mouths of fans by returning to a simpler time gives us The Doctor (David Tennant) and Donna Noble (Catherine Tate) together once again when another alien experience coincidentally close to Donna brings about their reunion. “The Star Beast” is forced to deal with the problem of putting the pair together (which should kill Donna), but awkwardly gets around the fact by not having any of the alien space events, characters, or the actions of The Doctor himself trigger Donna in any way (a pretty strong contradiction to events in “The End of Time“) until the script is ready to deal with the ramifications (in a way that makes the previous Doctor look incredibly stupid for not suggesting somethin similar years ago).

Rick and Morty - Rickfending Your Mort

Rick and Morty lampoon clip shows with “Rickfending Your Mort” when Morty‘s (Harry Belden) attempts to get an unengaged Rick (Ian Cardoni) back into action end up in an argument needing a mediator to solve. Obviously designed off of Star Trek‘s Guardian of Forever, the Observers view and recall all which provides some ammunition for both characters to fight with (and plenty of clicks of unseen adventures) until both Rick and Morty grow tired of the concept and can’t get rid of the Observer who starts showing anything it wants, humiliating various members of the family. After accidentally killing the Observer, Rick and Morty find themselves on trail for murder on its home world which, of course, means a whole new set of clips.

Rick and Morty - Unmortricken

“Unmortricken” brings back both Rick Prime (Ian Cardoni) and Evil Morty (Harry Belden) as Rick finally catches up to the man who ruined his life. We get a nice set up with a montage showing us what Evil Morty has been up to since seeing him last. His solitude is interrupted by Rick’s search for Rick Prime eventually leading Rick and both Mortys into being captured by Rick Prime, fighting their way out of a death chamber with other captured Ricks, and coming face to face with Rick Prime at the heart of his Omega Device which he used to wipe out not only Rick’s version of Diane but all versions of Diane across time and space.
