Star Wars #50 comic reviewIssue #50 kicks off a new arc that shows the culmination of the Rebellion’s hard work. The Rebel Fleet has finally been assembled. It’s an impressive sight to behold. Finally, the Rebellion has a weapon to fight back against the Empire. While showing it off new toys and new level of unity to their closest allies, however, things begin to go horribly wrong.

There’s certainly a huge emotional shift in Part 1 of “Hope Dies.” The celebration is cut short when the Rebels discover several of their ships have been sabotaged by Trios who betrays her new friends. That itself would be bad enough, but the arrival of Darth Vader and a fleet of Imperial ships to spring the trap foreshadows big trouble for the Rebellion heading into the next issue.

Samurai Jack - Episode XI: Jack and the Scotsman television review

Throwback Thursday takes us back to the adventures of the time-displaced samurai and his quest to make his way home. On the world’s longest rope bridge, Jack‘s (Phil LaMarr) journey is stalled when he comes face-to-face with the Scotsman (John DiMaggio). Having both spent days on the rickety bridge, neither is prepared to back-up and let the other by. The Scotsman’s bagpipes and verbal jabs at Jack only flame tempers further leading to sword fighting lasting all day, all night, and well into the next day. Only the arrival of Aku‘s (Mako) bounty hunters forces the two warriors to put their petty squabble aside and work together.

Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom movie reviewThis franchise is officially out of ideas. Again. The latest entry in the Jurassic Park franchise is a mishmash of plot from the previous entries without much of anything original or surprising to offer. This is the film where you know what’s going to happen every step of the way including when a dinosaur is about to jump out of the water or break through a window. And the film, of course, finds a way to shoehorn the trademark T-Rex shot in an attempt to remind you of better times. If it held any of the wonder of the first Jurassic Park the script’s lack of brains might be tolerable. However, it just feels tired. And dumb. Damn, this movie is dumb.

Darth Vader #17 comic reviewWhat does it mean to be a Jedi? Darth Vader #17 finally brings the Jedi Barr and Darth Vader face-to-face. While Vader is serving his own murderous impulses and the interests of the Emperor and Barr is pushing a Rebellion on Mon Cala that definitely isn’t in the population’s best short-term interests, the comic shows that neither is actually serving the Force.

Darth Vader #17 also features the hard line that Grand Moff Tarkin chooses to take on the rebelling planet, in an attempt to teach a lesson to any who would rebel in the future, even after their leader agrees to stand down and end the Rebellion. Barr and Tarkin bring equal amounts of destruction to Mon Cala as each plays a small role in a much larger game.

Samurai Jack - Episode X: Jack and the Lava Monster television review

Throwback Thursday takes us back to the adventures of the time-displaced samurai and his quest to make his way home. Following a mysterious call in the wildrness, though a valley of bodies and a mountain of traps, leads Jack (Phil LaMarr) to a cursed warrior (Richard McGonagle) deep within the mountain. Cursed by Aku (Mako) and left for eternity encased in a rocky prison, the warrior awaits for an opponent worthy enough to defeat him in battle and send him to Valhalla. Initially refusing to fight, Jack agrees to a one-on-one battle which frees the viking and delivers his long-sought peace.
