Scooby-Doo! - Never Ape an Ape Man television review

Throwback Thursday takes us back to Scooby Doo, Where Are You! for another mystery involving some meddling kids and their talking dog. An invite from Daphne‘s (Stefanianna Christopherson) uncle brings Mystery, Inc. to the movie set of The Ape Man of Forbidden Mountain where a real apeman begins terrorizing filming. With Daphne’s uncle playing one of the few guest-stars, it’s not hard to guess who is masquerading as the apeman (who oddly isn’t unmasked in the show’s tradition). The episode is memorable for Scooby-Doo (Don Messick) acting bravely early in the episode to save an actress from the apeman’s first attack and Daphne triggering a trap that sends Fred (Frank Welker) falling into a secret passage behind a bookcase (which would become part of the opening credits). As to the odd appearances of the parrot and a Scooby mask or the questionable motives of the stuntman putting a co-star’s life in danger merely in hopes to get a bigger role in the picture (which wouldn’t exist without the co-star), those are inconsistencies the episode doesn’t attempt to explain.

Scooby-Doo! - Decoy for a Dognapper television review

Throwback Tuesday takes us back to Scooby Doo, Where Are You! for another mystery involving some meddling kids and their talking dog. “Decoy for a Dognapper” is a rarity in that Scooby-Doo (Don Messick) brings a case to the gang after witnessing a dognapper steal a prize dog away from its owner, making it the latest in a series of dognappings. While things will get a splash of supernatural about halfway through the episode, the theft of dogs is also notable for being one of the most simple mysteries the gang ever investigated. Dressing up Scooby as the next likely dog to be taken leads Mystery, Inc. to an Indian village in the side of a cliff where they encounter both the Ghost of Geronimo and an Indian Witch Doctor (Messick).

Scooby-Doo! - Mine Your Own Business TV review

Throwback Thursday takes us back to Scooby Doo, Where Are You! for another mystery involving some meddling kids and their talking dog. A wrong turn leads Mystery, Inc. to the nearly deserted Gold City where locals and guests have been scared off by the Miner Forty-Niner, the ghost of an old prospector still searching for gold. It turns out the Miner is neither a ghost nor looking for gold, but oil hidden below the town. The Miner is one of the more forgettable monsters from the show’s run, although the episode does have some moments such as Scooby-Doo (Don Messick) and Shaggy (Casey Kasem) faking a train in the mine as part of one of the gang’s least complicated traps to catch a ghost.

Scooby-Doo! - A Clue for Scooby Doo television review

Throwback Thursday takes us back to Scooby Doo, Where Are You! for another mystery involving some meddling kids and their talking dog. A trip to Rocky Point Beach leads to the discovery of a glowing ghost haunting the shore in an old diving suit. While legend says the Ghost of Captain Cutler has been making yachts along the coast disappear, it’s actually not all that far from the truth as the ghost is in fact the very much alive Cutler who had been stealing ships to resell them. The episode is notable for Mystery, Inc. doing a bit of underwater investigating, Scooby-Doo (Don Messick) discovering a valuable clue, the simple yet visually-impressive glowing ghost, a trap which (as always) fails to work as intended but still nabs a ghost, a few red herrings (including a book of witchcraft), and the unmasking (notable for even surprising members of the Scooby gang).
