Pretty Little Liars - The DArkest Knight

The series’ final mid-season finale may not deliver the identity of A.D. (although we can cross two more possibilities off the list), but it does offer its share of moments and secrets revealed heading into the hiatus before Pretty Little Liars returns for its final ten episodes next spring. Hanna‘s (Ashley Benson) disappearance forces the Liars to get the police involved and let the authorities know about Noel Kahn‘s (Brant Daugherty) connection to the Doll House and A. As everyone believes Kahn has kidnapped Hanna the reverse is actually true, although the outcome will be far different than the Liar planned.

Pretty Little Liars - The Wrath of Khan

Stop me if you’ve heard this before, Hanna (Ashley Benson) does something rash. Believing Noel Kahn (Brant Daugherty) is A.D., Hanna begins following the the man without telling the other Liars what she is up to. Spencer (Troian Bellisario) and Emily‘s (Shay Mitchell) own investigation ties Noel to the Doll House confirming he was in league with the original A in helping torture the Liars during their captivity. Further spurned on after finding Sara Harvey‘s (Dre Davis) phone in Noel’s trash leads Hanna to a rash decision heading into next week’s mid-season finale. While Spencer looses the evidence the Liars found on Noel, Hanna’s rash actions are likely to lead to more questions being asked (if not necessarily answered) next week.

While Hanna‘s (Ashley Benson) belief that Noel Kahn (Brant Daugherty) is A.D. is bolstered by a nightmare, flashbacks to the torture she suffered during her kidnapping, and a sudden appearance by Carla Grunwald (Meg Foster), Spencer (Troian Bellisario) and Aria (Lucy Hale) investigate the sole remaining lead the Liars have by looking into the disgraced Radley doctor (Keith Szarabajka) who gave birth to Mary Drake‘s (Andrea Parker) second child. Despite the other Liars‘ unwillingness to act until their is definitive proof about Noel’s involvement, it appears Hanna is ready to take matters into her own hands (but who is helping her?).

The murder of Sara Harvey (Dre Davis) followed by a break-in at Toby‘s (Keegan Allen) home and the destruction of an entire room of Mary Drake‘s (Andrea Parker) secret files on the Liars and all their acquaintances leave the girls with only a single new clue: Charlotte has a sibling. Noel Kahn‘s (Brant Daugherty) possession of the file stolen from Toby’s home seems to confirm the idea that he working against the Liars. However, after Spencer (Troian Bellisario) and Hanna (Ashley Benson) overhear him reporting to someone evidence seems to point to Noel working for A.D. (rather than being A.D.).

“Wanted: Dead or Alive” is one of those episodes were you can see the Liars being manipulated and outsmarted by their adversary but they walk right into the new A‘s trap anyway. With a series of phone calls and an attack on Alison (Sasha Pieterse) by a masked individual, A.D. gaslight’s Spencer (Troian Bellisario) and Hanna (Ashley Benson) into digging up the grave of Elliot Rollins (Huw Collins) to convince themselves that the man is actually dead. By the end of the episode A.D. has all the video evidence he/she needs to destroy the Liars once and for all.
