We see some early frustration from Space Ghost to how cavalier the youngsters but they’ll step up before the issue is done. The main story involves Space Ghost making a deal with the unscrupulous Widow who plans out a heist of Robo Corp which would allow Space Ghost, Jan, and Jace all to get some some intelligence on, and some payback for, the company that destroyed all of their lives.

Taking them back to Ghost Planet to keep them safe in the short term, Space Ghost is quickly annoyed and impressed by the precocious youngsters who get into his stuff, steal his spaceship, but also help him defeat an Energy Monster that could have destroyed him.

Bringing the characters from the short-run 60s cartoon into the present, Space Ghost #1 gives the first meeting between the vigilante space cop Space Ghost and the young siblings Jace and Jan whose home is attacked, and whose father is killed, by space pirates whose numbers include fan-favorite Brak (albeit without his nasally charm). Reimagined with a more serious tone than the original series, Space Ghost gets a bit of the early days Batman treatment jumping out of the shadows with the evil-doers surprised that he actually exists and not sure what to make of him.

Green Lantern/Space Ghost Special #1 comic reviewOn the far edge of the universe, through a rift in space, two heroes answer the call about a dangerous weapon and a cry for help. Green Lantern/Space Ghost Special #1 follows the basic set-up of crossover issues with our heroes from different universes each mistaking the other for a villain and coming to blows for a few panels before discovering that they are on the same side. But, hey, this has Space Ghost and Green Lantern, so there was no way I was passing it up.

The anti-isolationist message is pretty heavy-handed here in this story about a world that denies the existence of anything, or anyone, outside of its atmosphere. In such a world the greatest weapon is the one that destroys a worldview and proves the biggest misconception of their uniqueness in the universe.
