The Mandalorian - The Complete Second Season

After finishing the story of the Mandalorian (Pedro Pascal) and Grogu at the end of the First Season of The Mandalorian, the pair were thrown back together in The Book of Boba Fett. This makes the Second Season feel like a major step back for both characters, Grogu has abandoned his journey to become a Jedi and Din Djarin has returned to the strict ways of his upbringing despite learning to let go of those at the end of the previous season.

Picking up the story with Darth Vader having been infected by Scourge as part of the Dark Droids crossover continues. Darth Vader #41 basically features a battle of wills between the Dark Lord of the Sith and the droid virus which attempts to convince Vader to let go of his remaining humanity and embrace what Scourge offers while Vader uses Scourge’s own droid virus to turn droids to his control leading to lots of carnage but basically a standstill with an epilogue teasing the storyline which will begin after this arc concludes.

The Dark Droids crossover continues with Darth Vader‘s return to Coruscant and a battle of wills between the Dark Lord of the Sith and the Emperor as Vader shows he is back in full control of his faculties and tests himself against the mettle of his master. While the end result of the issue is the droid plague spreading across the planet, and Vader making an unexpected alliance, the crux of the issues is student and master putting each other through the paces in a test of wills and a test of the power each unlocks from the Dark Side of the Force.

Continuing the “Dark Droids” crossover event, on Mustafar an infected Zed sends an Octuptarra tri-droid after Darth Vader in an attempt to finally put the Dark Lord of the Sith down. It’s another issue of a struggling Vader facing off against dangerous droids (although I could never quite buy the Octuptarra as a Sith-killer). The attack forces Vader to stop relying on the crutches which helped him reconnect with the Force and reclaim his power once more.
