Star Wars Rebels - Jedi Night television review

Star Wars Rebels returns from hiatus with the rescue of Hera (Vanessa Marshall) from the Empire and a farewell to one of the show’s core characters. While ordering Thrawn (Lars Mikkelsen) back to the core feels like a bit of a cheat to keep the stench of failure off his hands, the small Lothal rebels do complete their mission in rescuing a drugged, tortured, but still spirited, Hera from the Empire. As to the loss, there is plenty of foreshadowing in the episode, such as giving control of the rescue mission to Ezra (Taylor Gray) and the emotional moments between the former Jedi and the Ghost’s captain, and actually even more in the episodes leading up to “Jedi Night,” that Kanan (Freddie Prinze Jr.) may be the first Rebel to fall. That said, the show does the character proud with his heroic sacrifice to complete the mission and make sure that his friends made it out alive.

Star Wars: Thrawn #1

Star Wars: Thrawn #1 comic reviewThe first issue of the new six-issue Star Wars mini-series from Jody Houser and artist Luke Ross fills in some of the past of the Chiss warrior Mitth’raw’nuruodo, better known as Thrawn. While it feels like a bit too much story is shoved into a single over-sized issue, fans of the character should enjoy the peak into the history of Timothy Zahn‘s famous creation.

Thrawn #1 takes us from the Galactic Empire’s search in the Outer Rim for the legendary warriors known as Chiss, to their discovery of Thrawn, his first meeting with Emperor Palpatine, and his enrollment in the Imperial Academy where he bests other recruits while battling racism, jealousy, and hatred from those who would see him fail.

The Toys That Made Us - Star Wars

Playing heavily on nostalgia, The Toys That Made Us take an in-depth look at some of the most popular toys of my youth. The first episode looks at the merchandising and toy line tied to the original Star Wars and creation of an entire line of 3 & 3/4-inch action figures. The look back includes interviews with the toy makers, lawyers, and executives at a little-known Cincinnati toy company that would create a brand in excess of $14 billion worldwide. For those who grew up we these toys, each episode is an intriguing look into the toys of our youth. While I don’t have much interest in the Barbie episode, the Star Wars, G.I. JOE, and He-Man episodes each had something fun and interesting to offer.

Star Wars Adventures: Forces of Destiny: Hera

Star Wars Adventures: Forces of Destiny: Hera comic reviewThe latest from Star Wars Adventures: Forces of Destiny, a series of single-issue adventures each focusing on different heroines of the Star Wars universe, centers around Phoenix Squadron‘s fearless leader Hera Syndulla and her contentious droid who run into some Imperial trouble while attempting to convince Fekunda Outpost to help supply the Rebellion in their fight against the Galactic Empire.

With Imperial Agents already on-site looking for ways to add the outpost to their own supply lines, and with the locals unable to stand-up to the Empire directly, Hera has to think outside the box in order to come up with a solution by making the colony more of a hassle than the Empire has time to handle.
