Star Wars: The Force AwakensIt is a dark time for the Rebellion (even if they aren’t called the Rebellion anymore). The rise of a military force known as the First Order, built on the wreckage of the old Empire, is making the galaxy a very dangerous place for everyone’s favorite galactic heroes in a galaxy far, far away.

After waiting 32 years to see Luke Skywalker‘s (Mark Hamill) name appear in a Star Wars crawl the wait is finally over. Since 1983 we’ve gotten several different Star Wars cartoons, three (much maligned) prequels, an endless steam of merchandise, countless comic books and novels, and the sell of the franchise by George Lucas to Disney. The Force Awakens marks the first big project not overseen by Lucas with a storyline that diverges largely from the Star Wars Expanded Universe while playing on similar themes longtime fans are sure to recognize. Returning to what made the original trilogy so successful, director J.J. Abrams offers us a practical lived-in galaxy strewn with the wreckage of the Empire’s epic battles with the Rebellion.

Darth Vader #13 showcases just how fearsome Darth Vader can be as he takes down whatever resources the Rebels throw out him, seeing the troops, ships, tanks, and more as nothing but mild annoyances interfering in his search for young Skywalker. With everyone else concentrating on Vader, Han and Chewie set out to rescue Luke while Aphra takes steps of her own to secure Darth Vader’s prize using her killer robot’s likeness to a certain nosy protocol droid to her advantage.

Star Wars Rebels - Legacy

The Empire’s invasion of Garel forces the Rebellion to flee their base. Separating from the rest of the group, Kanan (Freddie Prinze Jr.) and Ezra (Taylor Gray) return to Lothal, led their by the padawan’s visions of his his parents who he believes may still be alive. The run from Garel provides plenty of action both on the ground, where Ezra shows off his growing abilities with Force against the Inquisitors, and in the air where Hera (Vanessa Marshall) uses the Ghost in a risky manuever to free the Rebellion’s flag ship form a Star Destroyer’s tractor beam.

Star Wars Rebels - The Future of the Force

Ahsoka (Ashley Eckstein) reaches out to Kanan (Freddie Prinze Jr.) and Ezra (Taylor Gray) when the Empire begins targeting force-sensitive children and sends the Inquisitors Fifth Brother (Philip Anthony-Rodriguez) and Seventh Sister (Sarah Michelle Gellar) to kidnap the infants from their families. Splitting up, the episode mostly follows the adventures of Kanan, Ezra, Zeb (Steve Blum), and Chopper on the planet Takobo. Before the end, however, Ahsoka will rendevouz with our heroes showcasing just how far the young padawan has come in her mastery of the Force since her first appearance in The Clone Wars.
