Today’s Throwback Tuesday takes us back to the animated streets of Metropolis and a hero who can leap buildings in a single bound. After escaping prison, and getting her butt handed to her by Superman (Tim Daly), Liveware (Lori Petty) goes in search of some back-up to take on the Man of Steel. For her back-up, Livewire chooses the powerful, but not altogether trustworthy, Parasite (Brion James). Superman is able to defeat the duo by using more brains than brawn both in insulating himself from the duo’s powers (although the full-body condom look isn’t one of our hero’s best) and later by leading Rudy into making a final mistake.

Today’s Throwback Tuesday takes us back to the animated streets of Metropolis and a hero who can leap buildings in a single bound. “Mxyzpixilated” offers the first five trips to Metropolis of the Fifth-Dimensional Imp Mr. Mxyzptlk. The classic character has been annoying Superman for years in various forms since his first appearance in comics back in 1944. The casing of Gilbert Gottfried as the annoying creature who Superman (Tim Daly) can only get rid of by having Mr. Mxyzptlk say or spell his name backwards is perfect casting. The character’s first and fifth visits take up the bulk of the episode with shorter visits in-between as Superman thwarts him at every turn.

Superman #19 offers a follow-up to last month’s issue in which Superman revealed to the world that he and Clark Kent are the same person. There’s not much fallout here, other than Clark getting fired from The Daily Planet (for all of about 10 seconds before being re-hired) and some awkwardness of his co-workers getting used to the new normal. Superman still hits the streets to save the day and look to the stars to take on intergalactic threats.
The folks at the Planet, in Metropolis, and in the Hall of Justice seem totally onboard with the reveal suggesting it may be a bit before any possible negative consequences raise their heads.
