Event Leviathan #4 comic reviewEvent Leviathan continues as the heroes are still no closer to identifying who is behind the attack on all the DCU’s spy agencies. The issue opens with Superman recounting his encounter with the apparent head of the organization, and his defeat as Leviathan was able to use some kind of temporal weapon to counter his super-speed and make off with Amanda Waller (who the group very much wants alive).

There are plenty of theories and unanswered questions here, but it’s Lois Lane who take some action when Batman‘s team of detectives comes up empty and looks for an alternate source (an intriguing group including the Elongated Man, Zatanna, Harvey Bullock, and the younger Question). Does this new team have a lead?

Batman/Superman #1 comic reviewThe new volume of Batman/Superman launches with Superman being called to Gotham City. A young boy has gone missing and all evidence points to the return of The Batman Who Laughs (Bruce Wayne from Earth-22 who was infected by that dimension’s Joker and has since become a hybrid of the two characters). Loose again on Earth-1, Batman and Superman team-up to find the missing boy and the villain who has teased the idea of turning all heroes into something just like him.

I was never really sold on the character of The Batman Who Laughs, but he’s largely absent here having already put his plan into motion. His choice of a new Robin creates much larger problems for The Dark Knight and the Man of Tomorrow when they realize Billy Batson (and his alter-ego) are now completely insane.

Throwback Tuesday takes us back to Metropolis for another episode of Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman. While smarting that Clark (Dean Cain) was nominated for a Kerth Award and she wasn’t (for the first time in her career), Lois (Teri Hatcher) and Clark investigate a new series of crimes by a criminal who uses sound waves to commit his crimes. Whether putting the populace to sleep or threatening to bring down a building, Metropolis soon finds itself at the mercy of a new threat. The episode is notable for Lois going undercover as a rock ‘n roll groupie and the show introducing a technology that could even bring the Man of Steel to his knees.

Action Comics #1011 comic review“Leviathan Rising” continues as Superman and Lois investigate, searching for the truth about the attack on all the DCU spy agencies that has left Spyral, the DEO, Checkmate, and others all crippled. With a source offering them intelligence on Spyral, and confirmation from Manhunter, the two have enough for their front page story about what has happened. However, the real question is what is going to happen next?

The best action from Action Comics #1011 comes from its opening pages as task force from remaining federal agencies target Kate Spencer who they believe to be connected to the Leviathan attacks. Despite their best attempts to take her into custody, Manhunter escapes.

Superman: The Animated Series - The Main Man TV review

Today’s Throwback Tuesday takes us back to the animated streets of Metropolis and a hero who can leap buildings in a single bound. The two-part episode “The Main Man” introduces Lobo (Brad Garrett) to the DC Animated Universe. Hired by the Preserver (Sherman Howard) to deliver the last known Kryptonian for his collection, Lobo heads to Earth where he creates a large enough scene to draw the attention of Superman (Tim Daly). Brad Garrett is certainly having fun here providing the voice for the intergalactic bounty hunter originally created by Roger Slifer and Keith Giffen. “Part One” is the better of the two episodes, featuring Superman and Lobo going at in the streets of Metropolis and then later in space where Lobo gets the best of Superman and turns him over to the Preserver (only to find himself also caged as the last survivor of his own race).
