The Turtles scour the city for the missing children, coming across Mousers which lead them into familiar ground in the sewers. While they are able to take down the Mousers without much trouble, Donatello, Leonardo, Raphael, Jennika, and Michelangelo fall prey one-by-one to the larger threat in the sewers: the Slithery.

With so much of the Turtles’ recent action taking place above ground, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #107 takes advantage of the Heroes in a Half-shell returning to the familiar surroundings of the city’s sewers and offers some great panels from artist Nelson Daniel.

Before throwing the Turtles into the next big arc, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #105 offers an interlude for our heroes to grow, relax, reflect, and build on what they’ve learned since reuniting in New York. This quiet issue is full of wonderful small moments for several characters. While evil lurks on the periphery, it doesn’t intrude.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #105 offers a couple of long-overdue moments where my favorite of the characters created for this comic is concerned. First, Raphael finally lets down his guard and allows Alopex in. Second, Raphael, Donatello, Leonardo, and Michelangelo all welcome the arctic fox as an official member of the Splinter Clan.

I loved this issue. After keeping the Turtles separate following the death of their father, they reunite in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #104 not to face some imminent threat but to finally share their grief with their loved ones. Donnie‘s trip to Mutant Town proves to be the catalyst needed to push Raphael and Donnie to returning to Leonardo and Michelangelo and tap into the strong family dynamic at the core of the title.

That alone would have been enough, but there’s plenty more story here as the Turtles together return to Mutant Town to set-up shop as protectors, mentors, and perhaps even senseis for a next generation of hero. There are some great moments among the foursome and with other characters including a nice back-and-forth between Alopex and Raph.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #103 takes an unexpected hard right turn after foreshadowing the dangerous mutant weasels unleashed on Mutant Town. Although the trio do cause some havoc, they are revealed to be mostly-harmless kids.

Their impact on Mutant Town isn’t the damage they do. It’s their mere existence and the fact that Old Hob was selling them to the Foot that causes Sally Pride to take a stand with potentially serious consequences concerning the Mutanimals.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #102 continues the themes of the last issue with the Turtles further fracturing after the death of Splinter. The latest issue sees Donatello leave the family, searching for his own path. While we look in at the Turtles and other characters such as April, the primary focus of the issue deals with life in the quarantined Mutant Town which is now run by Old Hob and his Mutanimals, not all of whom are playing nice with the newly-mutated populace.

The issue introduces us to to the human-porcupine mutant with a mean-streak Diamond who gets on the bad side of both Old Hob and Sally Pride only to cause even further trouble in spoiling Hob’s deal with Koya that accidentally lets loose three weasel warriors on the unsuspecting populace of Mutant Town.
