Transformers Prime: Beast Hunters - Predacons RisingAs an epilogue to the show which went of the year earlier this year, Transformers Prime: Beast Hunters – Predacons Rising returns the Autobots and Decepticons to the restored planet of Cybertron to face the new threat of Unicron (John Noble) who has assumed control of Megatron‘s (Frank Welker) fallen body and returned to Cybertron to destroy the planet once and for all. Sadly, like the series which proceeded it, the Beast Hunters movie closes without and appearance (or mention) of Grimlock and the Dinobots.

For a TV-movie with a running time of just over an hour, Predacons Rising includes quite a few storylines including Optimus Prime (Peter Cullen) and Wheeljack (James Horan) heading into deep space to recover the AllSpark, Predaking (John Noble) meeting two more of Shockwave‘s (David SobolovPredacon clones who nearly kill Ultra Mangus (Michael Ironside), Unicron creating a zombie army of Terrorcons out of the fossils of the original Predacons, and Autobots, Decepticons, and Predacons coming together to save Cybertron.

Transformers: Regeneration One #0

Transformers: Regeneration One #0Sent traveling through time and space by Primus, Hot Rod finds himself in various settings all across time as Transformers: Regeneration One uses this zero issue to tie the existing comic continuity and the 80’s Transformers movie together in a single issue. Although occasionally confusing, the comic mostly succeeds.

On his trip through time Hot Rod watches Optimus Prime sacrifice the Matrix to stop the Deathbringer, watch as the Earth is consumed by zombie Decepticons, see hidden origins of the early Transformers long purged from their memories, and on a planet of junk watch Galvatron fight to the death with a robot who looks very familiar.

Despite not quite following all the various plotlines (zombie Decepticons? and what exactly did Jhiaxus steal from the rest of the Transformers millennia ago?), the issue does well to deliver plenty of action and provide an opportunity to bring both the Matrix of leadership back into the original Marvel Comics continuity but introduce Rodimus Prime as well. Worth a look.

Transformers: Regeneration One #94

Transformers: Regeneration One #94Galvatron tries to repeat history in his brutal battle with Ultra Magnus while deep below the surface of Cybertron Hot Rod finds the possessed Grimlock. The Dinobots will get their leader back, but Primus has other plans for Hot Rod leading into next month’s Zero Issue. Meanwhile the rest of Cyberton is rocked by the arrival of Bludgeon and his Warworld which begins attacking the surface of the planet.

Although we don’t get more with Starscream and Shockwave, the issue is full of appearances by several favorite classic Transformers, rendered beautifully by Guido Guidi, including Omega Supreme who takes the war ship. We also get Soundwave taking on BlasterProwlKup, Perceptor, and one hell of a great battle between Galvatron and Ultra Magnus that takes up a big chunk of the issue.

No big fan of Zero Issues, I’m not sure what exactly to expect from next month’s issue. This month, however, certainly delivers. Worth a look.

Transformers: Regeneration One #93

Transformers: Regeneration One #93As Hot Rod and the Dinobots continue their descent into the bowels of Cybertron, Soundwave has successfully neutralized the Autobots’ early warning defenses allowing the Ark to make its way into Cybertron’s orbit undetected. Of course in a ship containing Galvatron, Starscream, and Shockwave the chance for last-second mutiny is a pretty good bet.

Although Shockwave and Starscream’s teased partnership to get rid of Galvatron has been slow boiling for months, here it comes to fruition as Galvatron finds himself attacked and then forcibly ejected out a hatch in Cyberton’s atmosphere. Meanwhile Hot and and the Dinobots find more than they were expecting including Grimlock‘s body which has been possessed by the spirit of Primus.

There’s a lot going on in this issue including several characters reverting to form as, despite the last-minute betrayal, Galvatron has finally made it back home. We also get cameoes from Optimus Prime, Prowl, Kup, the Aerialbots, and Ultra Magnus. Worth a look.
