Transformers: Regeneration One #89

Transformers: Regeneration One #89Shockwave and Grimlock in the same comic (and Shockwave even gets the cover)! Yeah, I’ll give that a look. IDW’s Transformers: Regeneration One #89 continues the storyline from the original Marvel Comics series which ended in 1991. In the latest issue, which takes place mostly on Cybertron, Grimlock faces the wrath of his fellow Dinobots for betraying them to Scorponok.

As Grimlock tries to talk and/or beat some sense into his (far too intelligent) Dinobot brothers about his “ingenious” plan to betray the Autobots and release the “warrior gene,” elsewhere on the planet Hod Rod (in, by far, the most ridiculous storyline) discovers a pair of ancient Primus relics which allow him to view and fight the Transformers’ past.

On Earth, Optimus Prime is out for a pleasure drive (really, he doesn’t do anything more in his one page cameo), and on the crashed Ark a battered Decepticon awakens as Shockwave brings his broken memories into focus and plans his next move. For fans.

[IDW, $3.99]

Transformers Prime – Season Two

  • Title: Transformers Prime – The Complete Second Season
  • tv.com: link

transformers-prime-blu-ray-season-2The Second Season of Transformers Prime continues the animated battles of the Autobots and Decepticons on Earth as well as the robots in disguise home planet of Cybertron. The series adopts the look and style of Michael Bay’s (truly awful) Transformers franchise and recent video game releases that as a fan of the original toys, comics, and cartoon series, I will freely admit, doesn’t always please me.

This means we’re stuck with several problematic elements from the movies including a Bumblebee that still can’t speak (and is a Camaro instead of a VW Bug), the moronic monster-like design of several of the Decepticons, a lack of understanding basic differences between robots and humans, a scarcity of only a handful of Autobots heroes, and a near endless supply of nameless (not to mention useless) Deception cannon fodder warriors that rank somewhere between Stormtroopers and Cobra soldiers in the grand scheme of things.

The First Look at Masterpiece Soundwave

A few weeks back we told you about the Masterpiece Transformers toys Takara Tomy was set to put out this fall. Well now there are pics of the Masterpiece Soundwave, Sideswipe, and Red Alert (currently available to pre-order in Japan). Very, very cool. Now we’ll just have to wait and see how long it takes the Decepticon to make his way across the ocean and satisfy insanely happy Transformer fans who will no doubt want to add him to their collection.
