In an episode that deals with the murder of a young girl whose remains are found 13 years after her disappearance, “Why is Jack’s Arm Bleeding?” also wraps up the flashbacks and hallucinations of Will’s (Ramón Rodríguez) younger self as the new case has just enough similarities to shake loose some repressed memories and reveal a guilt Will has been carrying around with him for half of his life. The sequences have been effective over the first-half of the season, but won’t mind them fading away. After a couple of red herrings in young men who fancied the victim, Will discovers the true motive and method of murder.

• Title: Will Trent – We Are Family

While the more impactful moments in terms of ongoing storylines in “We Are Family” involve Will (Ramón Rodríguez) making a connection with his mother’s brother (John Ortiz), the moment I’ll most remember in the episode has to do with the murder of the week outside of a drag club and a discussion with witnesses about a “vanilla envelope” that so perfectly fits our characters. The truth beyond the killing fits the tragic nature of the series, as does Will reaction to finding his uncle’s friends aren’t so happy about him being a cop, but so does this hilarious little segment as well as the closing moments involving the friends coming together to support Ormewood (Jake McLaughlin) in his time of need.

My only real complaint about “Capt. Duke Wagner’s Daughter” is this feels like a longer arc that was condensed into a single episode and, as a result, feels a bit constrained. A little more time to breathe could have led to one of the show’s best arcs. After seeing a couple of extremely fleeting suggestive hints that someone is coming after Wagner (Sonja Sohn) we get an episode that brings that story to the forefront, delves into troubled secrets in her past, reveals a nasty piece of work in Chuck Murray (Michael Papajohn), explains his motives, tease the end of Wagner’s career, ends the threat, and wraps up everything in time for the closing credits without much fallout other than a bit of a tiff between Wanger and Faith (Iantha Richardson).

A missing persons case takes Will (Ramón Rodríguez) and Faith (Iantha Richardson) to a town on the coast where a small group disappeared after their party in the woods. They may or may not have been taken by a boo hag locals believe are responsible for a half dozen missing people over the years. Survivors from whatever happened start appearing one at a time with muddied memories of what happened. That is, until one eventually turns up dead.
