Wonder Woman #7

While the “Year One” storyline is just getting the threesome acquainted in the odd issues of the new Wonder Woman series, Wonder Woman #7 reunites Wonder Woman with Cheetah and Steve Trevor as Wonder Woman her former friend turned enemy work together to free the captives and defeat Urzkartaga. The issue works well to wrap-up this part of the story while still leaving plenty to be delved into in the next arc. Will Diana’s fragile truce with Cheetah hold? What does her reunion with Steve mean for the future of the pair? I am curious to see where the comic will go next. Worth a look.

Trinity #1

Trinity #1Written and drawn by Francis Manapul, Trinity #1 focuses on the DCU’s big three: Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman. The most low key of any number one issue following the Rebirth relaunch, the first issue of the new series involves Lois inviting Bruce and Diana to dinner at the farm in order to get to know them (and force Clark to do the same). After a brief misunderstanding with Supes, Jr., things calm down quickly and allow the group to spend some non-life-threatening time together.

The first issue of the comic proves to be a pleasant surprise. With these three characters providing the pillars of the new DCU it’s good to see them together in this kind of setting. Lois and Diana are able to touch on her feelings for her dead Superman without needing to get bogged down in Diana’s loss, while the two heroes are able to get a better feel for the new Kal-El in their world.

Wonder Woman #6

Wonder Woman #6The rotating storylines of the series continue to flip-flop as Wonder Woman #6 takes us back to Diana‘s origins showcasing her return of Steve Trevor and her arrival in “Man’s World.”

Dropping out of the sky in an invisible jet with a solider thought dead leads to quite a bit of confusion for everyone involved, including Diana who can’t understand the speech of a single person she meets. As she’s processed and put in a cell for safe-keeping, Trevor is forced to answer a series of questions from a befuddled brass and doctors who can’t except his story of a mythical island of Amazon warriors but also can’t explain what they are witnessing right before their eyes.

Wonder Woman #5

Wonder Woman #5“The Lies” begins to unite both Wonder Woman and Cheetah‘s story with the subplot of Steve Trevor and his unit in the jungles of Bwunda. Wonder Woman and Cheetah’s trek through the jungle into the home of the bloodthirsty god Urzkartaga leads them to discover the captured soldiers… although the jungle deity’s plans for Trevor mean we’ll have to wait at least until one more issue before his reunion with Diana.

The comic also features a new subplot thousands of miles away concerning an unknown entity’s interest in Wonder Woman and her reunion with Trevor. Taking up a few too many pages while teasing us with information the comic has no intention of sharing just yet, the subplot slows down both Wonder Woman and Trevor’s individual tales. Of course, this allows the issue to end on a cliffhanger.

Wonder Woman #3

Wonder Woman #3Returning to the current storyline begun in the series’ first issue, Wonder Woman #3 focuses primarily on former friends turned enemies Wonder Woman and Cheetah. Unable to find Themyscira on her own, Diana needs the help of an old friend.

Even after striking deal with Cheetah, before earning her help Wonder Woman and her new ally will have to deal with the the wolf-man-like soldiers chasing them through the jungle. And then of course there’s also Steve Trevor who gets one-step closer to Wonder Woman with every single issue. Will his appearance upset the tenuous alliance between the former friends? And what happens if Diana is forced to choose between her former sister and lover?
