Birds of Prey #5

Birds of Prey #5

This series has begun to spin its wheels. With the novelty of the team’s makeup worn off and no effort to really explain just what the hell the Megaera is or what it wants (other than Sin‘s body) there’s not much of note in this issue except for repeated sequences of scenes we’ve already seen before, only less effective the second time around. Wonder Woman #3

After one of the best Wonder Woman comics I’ve ever read, the series comes down to Earth for something closer to a middle issue of an ongoing arc. However, there are some unexpected twists involving Zealot making a pact with the island, Barda loosing her favorite thumping stick, and Green Arrow distracting Wonder Woman from events on the island not going exactly as planned.

Wonder Woman #2

While I’m not overly interested in the Amazon’s Attack! event that this comic is helping to set up, and which the back-up story foreshadows, Wonder Woman #2 is easily one of the best comic books I’ve read this year providing action while at the same time exploring the character of Diana, who she is, why she fights, and why she must take a stand for what’s right.
