AEW Dynamite – 3/15/23

The March 15th edition of AEW Dynamite featured all four pillars of AEW in the ring together at the same time, Orange Cassidy defending the rebranded International Championship against Jeff Jarrett, Blackpool Combat Club taking on The Dark Order, a new music video from The Acclaimed, and a triple-threat match for the AEW Trios Championship.

Highs:

  • Dynamite started with the Re-Bar Mitzvah of MJF which was quickly interrupted by each of the other pillars of AEW hitting the ring one-by-one and all three challenging MJF to a title match. After a few more heated words between MJF and his would-be challengers, things broke down to MJF being knocked out of the ring directly into his celebratory cake. Great segment that harkened back the idea of the four pillars and elevated Jungle Boy, Sammy Guevara, and Darby Alin into the main event scene all in one segment.
  • Opening match featured the Blackpool Combat Club defeating “Hangman” Adam Page, and The Dark Order’s Evil Uno and Stu Grayson. Great six-man action with some dirty-handed heel tactics from the BCC and several near-falls for the faces until ultimately falling the the Blackpool Combat Club.
  • Triple-threat main event for the AEW Trios Championship featured the House of Black defending against both the Jericho Appreciation Society and The Elite. Hometown boys Chris Jericho and Kenny Omega got the biggest pops of the night who got multiple opportunities to face-off against each other and work together against Brody King. House of Black gets the win, with earlier night action eventually spilling into the ring post-match and providing an unexpected ending as Dynamite went off the air.
  • Orange Cassidy‘s title defense of the rebranded International Championship against Jeff Jarrett played on the recent attack on the champion’s knee and Cassidy overcoming outside interference to retain.
  • Jade Cargill defended her TBS Championship in her Open Canadian Challenge where her challenger was revealed to be independent wrestler Nicole Matthews. Quick match that lasted less than 1 minute and offered some heel shenanigans afterwards with Jade roughing up Renee Paquette in the post-match interview prior to the surprise appearance of Taya Valkyrie (who was later announced via Twitter to now be All Elite) who took out Leila Grey.
  • New music video from The Acclaimed. Follow-up backstage promo from Angelo Parker and Matt Menard giving their review of the video and calling out the former tag team champions again.

Lows:

  • None

Less Notable:

  • Pre-taped segment of Jericho’s charity work in Winnipeg.
  • Pre-taped promo recapping Juice Robinson‘s attack on Ricky Starks. Starks offered his response in a backstage interview with Tony Schiavone calling out Robinson.
  • Recap of Powerhouse Hobbs win last week was followed by a QTV segment revealing the Factory was behind the break-in of Wardlow’s car last week continuing to turn the real-life theft into a storyline for television.
  • Recap promo of the House of Black / JAS / The Elite prior to the main event.
  • Outcasts in-ring segment featured Ruby Soho, Saraya, and Toni Storm talking trash on the women division before being attacked by Britt Baker and Jamie Hayter who then needed to be saved by Skye Blue, Riho, and Willow Nightingale. Rough in spots, but it did offer a second extended segment on the show showcasing several members of the women’s division and elevating Blue and Nightingale to the level of Hayter and Baker.
  • Pre-taped challenge from Rey Fenix setting up a title match against Powerhouse Hobbs.
