AEW Dynamite – 5/3/2023

The May 3rd edition of AEW Dynamite offered Adam Cole and Orange Cassidy in an 8-man tag against the JAS, a trios battle royal, and a four pillars tag match featuring Darby Allin, Jungle Boy, Sammy Guevara, and MJF with major implications for Double or Nothing.

  • The show kicked off with Adam Cole, Roderick Strong, Orange Cassidy, and Bandido taking on the JASDaniel Garcia, Jake Hager, Angelo Parker and Matt Menard in an 8-man tag. Ongoing story to the match was Cole’s repeated attempts to get up the ramp and get to Chris Jericho who was providing commentary for the match, and finally getting his hands on the JAS leader after getting the win for his team. The fight continued into the back with Cole forcibly removed by security for jumping Jericho again backstage.
  • Renee Paquette‘s backstage interview with both and Jungle Boy and Darby Allin about teaming up in the main event tonight and earning a shot for both of them in the main event at Double or Nothing. Follow up segment later in the night with MJF interrupting Sammy Guevara‘s interview leading to Sammy calling out MJF for leaving him the previous week before a quick makeup for the new best friends heading into the main event four pillars tag match. Later backstage segment where MJF attempted to cause some descension between the face team just prior to the match. However, it was partnership between MJF and Sammy which fell apart first as the pair fought over who would earn the pin late in the match. With Darby’s pin, the fatal four-way match is set for the PPV. Great match and great story that was told over the course of the night.
  • Blackpool Combat Club backstage segment led by Bryan Danielson and Jon Moxley. Follow-up promo segment from Kenny Omega and Don Callis helping to promote the Moxley vs. Omega steel cage match next week on Dynamite.
  • Crowd favorite Willow Nightingale took on Saraya with the other Outcasts at ringside offering some timely assistance helping Saraya get the win with a post-match beatdown for Willow and the return and double-swerve of Hikaru Shida getting some payback and joining forces with Britt Baker and Jamie Hayter.
  • Promo for the House of Black setting up not only the trios battle royal later that night of potential challengers but also laying down the rules for those willing to step into the ring with the House and take their chances. The promo was immediately followed by the battle royal pitting the Dark Order versus the Acclaimed and Daddy Ass versus Kip Sabian and the Butcher & the Blade versus the Lucha Brothers and El Hijo del Vikingo versus the Varsity Athletes versus Powerhouse Hobbs and QTV. The Acclaimed pull out the victory outlasting Sabian’s team.
  • Ricky Starks defeated Juice Robinson in a fast-paced hard-hitting match that didn’t see any interference but did see Switchblade Jay White hit the ring after the match to jump Starks. Robinson and Starks both got over here working great together.

  • Promotion for the Firm vs. Hardy team match on AEW Rampage.
