Battle of the Belts V

Immediately following AEW Rampage, Battle of the Belts V offered three more title defenses for the rabid Portland crowd starting with the rematch between The Acclaimed and the team of Jeff Jarrett and Jay Lethal for the AEW World Tag Team Championship along with also giving fans title defenses of both the All-Atlantic Championship and the TBS Championship.

Highlights:

  • In a No-Holds-Barred match, The Acclaimed successfully defended the AEW World Tag Team Championship against Jeff Jarrett and Jay Lethal. Solid tag match that started slow but that picked up, and became a hell of a lot of wacky fun, after the shenanigans started and any semblance of rules went out the window.
  • Jade Cargill defended the TBS Championship against Skye Blue who got in some quick offense, and a late flurry with a couple of close near-falls, before Cargill’s power-based offense eventually led to victory. Notable appearance by Red Velvet at ringside but not as a member of the Baddies. Some great stuff from Skye Blue who continues to improve in the ring.
  • In a match full of Kip Sabian pulling goofs and shenanigans (including biting Danhausen‘s finger, mocking Orange Cassidy‘s light chops and kicks, and a Best Friend hug with Penelope and The Bunny) before ultimately loosing to Cassidy. Strong storytelling throughout the match where Sabian kept Cassidy off his game, offering the opportunity for a meaner and less jovial version of Cassidy to ultimately pull out the win.

Lows:

  • Short backstage promo from Eddie Kingston and Ortiz. in response to the cool looking (but a bit awkward) House of Black promo from Rampage without really being about the House of Black and foreshadowing some trouble between the pair heading into their match.
