Castle - The Good, the Bad, and the Baby

While investigating a murdered limo driver whose last act was to bequeath a three-month-old baby to priest, Beckett (Stana Katic) and Castle (Nathan Fillion) take in the infant. Not finding any connection between the murder victim and the baby Beckett talks with the man’s girlfriend (Christie Burson) while hunt down a recently released convict (Matt Gerald) who was seen threatening the victim days before his death. Although the ex-con isn’t their killer, finding him clues the team into the fact while not driving limousines, their victims was a getaway driver actively planning an escape route for the latest score.

With clues to heist where nothing was stolen and still no idea of the real identity of the infant, Ryan’s obsession with the Powerball gives Castle the answer they were missing. The thieves used the robbery to rig the lottery. Investigating the lottery drawing leads Castle and Beckett to discover not only who was responsible for swapping the fake balls into the machine but also identifying the baby’s mother (Teri Reeves) whose baby and husband (Adrian Quinonez) were kidnapped to force her to make the switch.

Tying the building’s security guard (John Allen Nelson) to the complicated heist Beckett and her team are able to take down all the thieves and reunite a family leaving plenty of time for Beckett to one-up Castle at Thanksgiving dinner. Although baby episodes like this often seem forced, and the baby certainly gets passed around quite a bit for being under police protection, the episode has an okay mystery and does allow Castle and Beckett to explore being parents together while offering a humorous moment where Alexis (Molly C. Quinn) returns home from college blindsided with Beckett and Castle taking care of the baby.
