Charlie's Angels - Angels on Ice television review

Throwback Thursday takes us back to the tale of three beautiful former police officers turned private detectives working for a faceless boss known as Charlie. Season Two of the show follows up it’s double-sized premiere with another two-hour episode sending the Angels in to investigate trouble with the Ice Capades only days before they are set to open. After the show’s two stars disappear, the unlikely sudden appearance of two talented unknowns raises further questions for the Angels. Despite lacking the talent of professional skaters, Kris (Cheryl Ladd) and Kelly (Jaclyn Smith) manage to charm their way into the show (although Kris finds herself playing the fool, literally). James Gammon guest-stars as the loyal but dimwitted Billy whose obsession with one of the stars allows the kidnappers access to the arena and starts the assassination plot rolling.

The episode raises the stakes with an evil cabal working to replace the skaters on the show in order to use their access to assassinate a group of sheiks attending the performance. It’s as goofy as it sounds. The episode is notable for Kelly’s belly dancing sequence, which ends in her being captured and imprisoned with the other replaced skating stars, and Sabrina (Kate Jackson) running afoul of the law and getting charged with operating a vehicle without a license, reckless driving, stealing a truck, and felony littering when her attempts to chase the kidnappers ends with her crashing a stolen fruit truck into a police car. The Angels manage to thwart the assassination, although it does require some improvisation on the ice not endorsed by the program’s director.
