Danger Man - The Dead Man Walks television review

Throwback Thursday takes us back into the Cold War spycraft of Danger Man. John Drake (Patrick McGoohan) is sent to India to determine if one scientist from a group of five who discovered a virulent bacteria strain, all believed to be dead, may be alive and working on weaponizing the virus for profit. Although Drake has the right idea, it turns out he has the wrong scientist. Calling on the daughter (Marla Landi) of one of the presumably dead men gets him nowhere, but the wife (Julia Arnall) of another of the scientists (Richard Pearson) proves to be far more promising.

A little mischief involving a local forger, mixed with a wife’s jealousy, and Drake has the lure to catch his prey deep within the jungle. “The Dead Man Walks” is a smart episode and Arnall is well-cast as the cold-as-ice blonde, offering contrast to the much warmer host (even if the show can’t quite sell the British Landi as a dutiful Indian daughter). The opening murder of one of the scientists performed by gassing the man’s apartment is also of interest as the episode takes special care not to reveal the assailant’s identity.
