Danger Man - The Deputy Coyannis Story television review

Throwback Tuesday takes us back into the Cold War spycraft of Danger Man. John Drake (Patrick McGoohan) is sent to the Balkans to investigate murder and the surrounding rumors of misappropriation of IMF funds. “The Deputy Coyannis Story” offers a complicated tale with several twist and turns as Drake struggles to figure out who he can trust. While the populist leader (John Phillips) suggests proof of the Minister (Charles Gray) misappropriating IMF funds led directly to his son’s (Stuart Hutchison) murder, the Minister paints a far different picture of the country’s peasants being against change and refusing the help offered through them in the forms of modern farming equipment and supplies.

While attempting to befriend both men, Drake must search for the truth somewhere in the middle of what he has been told. Along with struggling to discover who is actually telling the truth, Drake must also work to solve a murder, and (if possible) discover if the funds are indeed getting to the farmers. Circumstances are complicated by the personal motivations of both the Minister’s wife (Heather Chasen) and the populist leader’s daughter (Julie Hopkins). Drake is eventually able to uncover the truth, but the machinations of both women end in tragedy as the man they both love meets a sudden end.
