Danger Man - The Lonely Chair television review

Our Throwback Tuesday post takes us back into the Cold War spycraft of Danger Man. When reclusive scientist’s (Sam Wanamaker) daughter Sally (Liz Lanchbury) is kidnapped and the government fears that the kidnappers will ask for his government secrets in exchange for her return. John Drake‘s (Patrick McGoohan) is sent in to help get Sally back alive and not allow confidential government information to fall into enemy hands. To do that he will need to earn the trust of the wheel-chair bound scientist and his estranged wife (Hazel Court).

Disguising himself as the expert, with the help of the man’s wife, Drake is able to exchange himself for the girl which gives him time to divide and conquer the kidnappers who aren’t expecting a crippled man to overpower armed thugs. In the end, Drake not only saves the government secrets but reunites the family in an episode light on flash but strong on misdirection and the spy outwitting his adversaries.
