Danger Man - The Vacation television review

Our Throwback Thursday post takes us back into the Cold War spycraft of Danger Man. John Drake‘s (Patrick McGoohan) first vacation in four years is interrupted before it ever gets started when Drake recognizes the man seated next to him on the plane to Nice is a well-known assassin (Hugh McDermott). After waylaying the killer-for-hire in the hotel, Drake assumes the man’s role and travels to a home outside the city where he awaits confirmation on the target who is identified to be the the niece (Jacqueline Ellis) of his wealthy host (Esmond Knight).

For such a short episode, “The Vacation” offers several twist and turns as Drake first assumes the identity of the assassin then of a tennis pro (the identity chosen for the assassin to get close to his target). Only temporarily incapacitating the real killer nearly does Drake in when the assassin is able to allude the police and to get in contact with his co-conspirators, altering Drake’s assigned target (as a way to warn the person who is paying for the hit) and nearly making this vacation his last.
