And now there are two. When Tom Kullersen (Jeremy Shada) sneaks away to spend time with his dragon, who earns the name Thunder in this episode, Jun (Ashley Liao) follows him discovering the hidden world below only to get trapped in a crystal chamber. To escape, she’ll need to make a connection with a two-headed dragon who will eventually accept her as its dragon rider. Mostly centered around Jun and her dragon, and Tom and Thunder fighting off some Gembreakers, other characters only make token appearances her including Alex (Aimee Garcia) who finds a way go get Tom outside the perimeter without setting off the alarms.

While the Gembreakers aren’t all that visually interesting, their tough hides do prevent a problem for Thunder and Tom leaving Jun alone to solve her own problems. They are overshadowed by Wu and Wei who Jun connects with over stories past down from her family. Two two-headed dragon of fire and ice is a nice addition to the show. I’ll be curious whether the other kids will each get their own introduction to the dragons as Jun did, or all will come together as the show fills out its entire roster of dragon riders.
