Galavant - Joust Friends

Traveling to Valencia with his squire Sid (Luke Youngblood) and Princess Isabella Lucia Maria Elizabetta of Valencia (Karen David), Galavant (Joshua Sasse) chooses to enter a joust contest to help pay for the group’s temporary lodgings where he runs into his old rival, the cleverly named Sir Jean Hamm (John Stamos).

Let’s stop for a moment and realize that this is a show and episode where the title of each is a pun. Okay, you know my interest is piqued. Forced to put up the Valencia prized jewel as collateral to enter the joust, Isabella spends time retraining the hero during a pretty ridiculous (and awesome) montage to get Galavant ready to win a single match in the joust after getting the hero advanced straight to the final on name recognition alone. Not leaving anything to chance, the princess also makes sure Hamm is good and drunk for the most anticlimactic joust of all time.

The episode’s B-story involves Gareth (Vinnie Jones) attempting to butch up King Richard (Timothy Omundson) which leads to a duet between both the king and queen and Galavant and Isabella continuing to suggest these might be the romantic pairings best for all concerned. Next week offers two more episodes of the series, and I can’t wait to see what Galavant has in store for us.
