Galavant (Joshua Sasse), Sid (Luke Youngblood), and Isabella (Karen David) take a momentary respite on their journey to Valencia choosing to stop in the home village of Galavant’s squire. The returning hero brings happiness to the whole town as Galavant discovers he’s stuck in the role of squire as everyone believes his squire is responsible for all of Galavant’s great deeds.
In Valencia a bored King Richard (Timothy Omundson) decides to throw a ball for the members of the kingdom he hasn’t killed. With little food, a Jester (Ben Presley) too busy diddling Queen Madalena (Mallory Jansen) to offer any entertainment, and a band made up of executioners, the night doesn’t exactly go off as planned. Both sets of festivities allow a character to make an important discovery as Galavant sees himself through a squire’s eyes for the first time and the king learns why his wife finds the jester so entertaining.
Although it lacks any musical number as good as “Maybe You’re Not the Worst Thing Ever” from the show’s second episode, “Two Balls” does provide plenty of laughs and more wacky musical fun given the executioners turned musicians pitifully attempting to entertain a starving and depressed town and the squires gathering to sing about knights who are, as they say, nothing more than a bunch of jackasses in a can.
