Hawaii Five-0 - Imi loko ka 'uhane

Presented from the perspective of talk show host Savannah Walker (Aisha Tyler), the episode is shown in flashbacks of Walker and her camera crew shadowing Five-0 for an exclusive segment for her show that the Governor (Richard T. Jones) decided would make for good PR for the department and the state. After a rocky start in which both McGarrett (Alex O’Loughlin) and Danny (Scott Caan) refuse to be interviewed on-camera, things pick up with the discovery of a mutilated body and the unexpected appearance of Wo Fat (Mark Dacascos) at the crime scene.

Over the course of her expose, Savannah goes over all aspects of the team including talking with Kono (Grace Park), Chin Ho (Daniel Dae Kim), Fong (Brian Yang), Max (Masi Oka), and even Kamekona (Taylor Wily), who are comfortable on-camera, and Catherine (Michelle Borth), McGarrett and Danny, who take some time to warm to the project (although Steve and Danny’s bickering makes good TV).

A Russian mobster stalking the victim finally gives Five-0 the dead man’s name, but when the suspect alibis out Five-0 has to continue their search for Wo Fat and the actual killer elsewhere including talking with the victim’s girlfriend (Lili Mirojnick) and looking into the tattoo that the killer cut off of the victim after the murder which is actually a map to hidden replica plates for the $100 bill. With Catherine’s help the team narrows the search which leads them to their killer, the plates, and Wo Fat.

The style of the episode gives “Imi loko ka ‘uhane” a different feel, although it also begins to drag before the episode comes to a conclusion. It also overshadows the return of Wo Fat and Five-0’s eventual capture of the man responsible for the murder of McGarrett’s father. The episode returns to normal for the epilogue involving McGarrett confronting the wounded, but still alive, Wo Fat perhaps foreshadowing another confrontation between the two in the season’s remaining three episodes.
