Hawaii Five-0 - Ka Makau Kaa Kaua

Boxing takes up a large portion of the latest episode of Hawaii Five-0, the primary purpose of which is to continue to build up Gabriel Waincroft (Christopher Sean) as the season’s criminal mastermind. On the eve of a middleweight prize fight, Five-0 is called in to investigate the murder of the local underdog’s (Lewis Tan) brother who was beaten to death only hours after sucker punching the champion on live television.

Despite a couple of twists involving the scrum at the match’s weigh-in and the victim’s criminal past, the episode is a little light on content relying on quite a bit of boxing footage to fill out the episode’s full run-time. The fight itself is competently shot while the members of Five-0 work separately around the arena to stop Gabriel from using the event to kill the heads of the various criminal organizations. The B-story, which takes up far less time than expected, involves Adam (Ian Anthony Dale) deciding to take a plea deal and head to prison for the foreseeable future. The episode ends with Five-0 showing up to support Kono (Grace Park) in her hour of need.
