Hawaii Five-0 - Wawahi moe'uhane

While investigating the murder of a 22 year-old hulu dancer (Delys Kanemura Recca), McGarrett (Alex O’Loughlin) and Danny (Scott Caan) agree to accept the help of a former local police officer turned private detective (William Forsythe) who was tracking the victim for an old friend who was worried his daughter had gotten involved in something dangerous. Discovering the company that employed the victim is under investigation for prostitution, Five-0 takes a hard look at the company and their clients – one of whom went home with the victim on the night of her death only to turn up dead as well.

“Wawahi moe’uhane” includes several B-stories including Jerry Ortega (Jorge Garcia) looking for a job, Steve’s new friend Ellie (Mirrah Foulkes) attempting to set him up on a blind date, and the new medical intern Mindy (Amanda Setton) having an emotional reaction to the case allowing Danny to pry a little information out of the character about her past and the reason she became a medical examiner. The third B-story is the only one that directly ties into the episode, helping to flesh out the show’s newest character and possibly foreshadow a relationship between Mindy and Danny somewhere down the line?

The detective, whose occasional first-person narration really doesn’t fit the tone or bright (and very non-noirish) look of Hawaii Five-0, finds the owner (Eric Roberts) of the boat used to dump the hulu dancer’s body which eventually leads Five-0 to uncover the motive for the murder of both victims, nab a killer (Doug Savant), and take down the head (Andrea Roth) of the call girl ring. I wonder if this will be the only appearance by Forsythe or if the old-school detective might become another of the show’s recurring characters.
