Although Clint (Jeremy Renner) will push her away again by the end of the episode, “Partners, Am I Right?” focuses mainly on the unexpected partnership between Hawkeye and Kate (Hailee Steinfeld). There are a lot of little pieces her involving looking into Kate’s crooked stepfather-to-be and his connection to the Tracksuit Mafia, the return of the LARPers, another run-in with Echo (Alaqua Cox), Kate guessing the truth of Ronin, and trap involving another item stolen from the Avengers which leads to the introduction of Yelena (Florence Pugh), which was teased at the end of Black Widow.
It’s the final piece that will likely have the largest implications in the remaining episodes of the series. While it doesn’t appear like Yelena is out to kill Hawkeye, there is some question about what she’s actually after (unanswered questions about Natasha, perhaps?) as she becomes the latest character introduced that has some tangential connection to the hero’s troubled past. Despite Clint pushing her away, I doubt Kate will so easily give up the new world that she’s found and a mentor, whether he likes it or not, who turns out to be a pretty good partner for the plucky young archer.
