Hawkeye – Ronin

  • Title: Hawkeye – Ronin

“Ronin” is notable for people telling Kate (Hailee Steinfeld) to stay away from Clint Barton (Jeremy Renner). This includes her mother (Vera Farmiga), Clint himself, and Yelena (Florence Pugh) who shows up in Kate’s apartment for a little chat about her new best friend. Starting here, and continuing through the series finale, the scenes between Kate and Yelena prove to be some of the best of the series (although we don’t get nearly as much interaction between Yelena and Clint as I expected).

The other piece to the episode involves Clint redonning the Ronin costume and confronting Echo (Alaqua Cox), finally finding a way to reach the haunted young woman. This too will have repercussions in the next episode. Yelena snooping into who hired her to kill the Avenger offers a pair of big reveals. First, Kate’s mother may not be who she appears to be. Second, the discovery of who she’s working for reintroduces Daredevil’s Vincent D’Onofrio as New York’s Kingpin, Wilson Fisk. As with Charlie Cox‘s cameo in Spider-Man: No Way Home, the move officially brings another of the Netflix Marvel characters into the MCU.
