House of Lies - Brinkmanship

A trip to Chicago to cement the deal Clyde (Ben Schwartz) has been promising Marty (Don Cheadle) for weeks first involves a trek to the beach to get the support of Marissa’s (Eliza Coupe) old billionaire boyfriend (Balthazar Getty) whose mere presence at the meeting might be enough to scare her family into giving her back control of the online empire she built.

It wouldn’t be an episode of House of Lies without bad decisions and hits to the ego. The night before the trip, with his father (Glynn Turman) and son (Donis Leonard Jr.) on a camping trip, a lonely Marty calls on Monica (Dawn Olivieri) for company. Marty also has to deal with Zaninno (Getty) brusquely declining his offer to do further business while deservedly questioning Marty’s character. Things are no better for Doug (Josh Lawson) who finds his separate worlds of his office flirtations with Caitlin (Genevieve Angelson) crashing into his home life when Sarah (Jenny Slate) accompanies the Pod to Chicago.

After another episode of Marty treating Clyde like shit it appears the two may have finally turned the corner with the successful completion of the deal (which means I hope we’ll be seeing more of Clyde and Marissa, not less). Sarah boiling over on the plane and her ultimatum leave Doug in a precarious position as we’ll have to wait and see where the fallout leaves the character moving into the seasons final four episode’s.
