Throwback Thursday takes us back to the Second Season of Human Target. A family in need sends Christopher Chance (Mark Valley) and team to the suburbs, albeit under the false impression its the father who is being targeted. With Chance and Guerrero (Jackie Earle Haley) shadowing and snooping around Mr. Applebaum’s (John Michael Higgins) workplace, and Winston (Chi McBride) watching over the wife (Rebecca McFarland), Ames (Janet Montgomery) hangs out with the family’s teenage son Joel (Taylor Boggan) who, unknowingly, is actually responsible for the attack that nearly got them all killed in the opening scene.

Along with the running gag of Chance’s dislike of Christmas, the humor from the episode comes from no one really fitting in be it the suburbs, the mall, the a standard 9-5 office, or Ames tagging along with Joel to a high school party to help him impress a girl (Marie Avgeropoulos) which leaves him vulnerable to the evil Swedish gamer (David Orth) infecting the company’s computers, like the one Joel is carrying around. Joel, angry  over what the game did to his laptop, took some ill-advised revenge with a virus of his own leaving his laptop the only place where the baddies’ stolen files still exist. Far from the strongest episode of the series, “The Other Side of the Mall” still has its moments such as the action sequence in the mall with Winston dressed as Santa and Chance literally flying through the air to close the case.
